I don't see anything he does that Drinkwater doesn't? Other than cover centre back, which quite frankly shouldn't be a reason for selection.

I'm just baffled how Townsend hasn't got in as he's the only one who offers genuine width and actually does well for England. Drinkwater should have gone too but to be honest he wouldn't do a lot in this shambles, Vardy is unlikely too either. It's incredible. there's no chance we'll play a diamond. dier wilshere henderson rooney/vardy - kane - milner/lallana/sterling is what im almost certain we'll see. this is going to be painful.

No he's only in because he's a Spurs player, if drinkwater played for them and dier for us drinkwater would be going instead of him.

Agree, Townsend has shone out in an under performing team and does indeed offer width, pace and passion for the England selection ... but, as you point out the selection just appears totally shambolic and I fear we are going to suffer as a consequence. I'll be amazed if we get past the Q/F stage!

This is why I don't get excited about England in tournaments now, like the fact Wooney always starts, sponsors have a big say as well as the FA and Woy. Euro 96 was out last good tournament, says it all really about the whole set up.

I am not concvinced that we will make it out of the group. Indeed, my Welsh and Northern Irish ancestry has a better chance of making the round of 16.

Danny would never have played as a starter and would be lucky if woy would even give him a go as sub. He will get a good break now and be fresh for our biggest season ever. Dissapointed, but if you look at those midfielders who got in ahead of him.... henderson, wilshire.... you realise woy is running aclosed shop.... no one can enter except his favourites. You can play your best season ever and you won't get a chance. Same goes for Townend, who imo deserves a place in the team even more than drinky. Not because i rate him higher than drinky.... but because he is a better player than some of the others in that position currently. Townsend was competing with lallana, sterling, barkely.... and he is miles better form than them and looked as threat whenever he got a brief chance. much better than barkley, lalana and sterling. Both Drinky and Townsend can look at this and be glad, as neither would have got a chance to play and would have missed out on a summer break. Drinky can be even more happier knowing he has a top season ahead of him.... while townsend i suppose will be dissapointed he won't get to parade himself to potential suitors .

Throughout the season I'd agree, but he provided practically nothing at all in the matches he's played so I don't think it can be that controversial. Think he'll be called up again and grow into it though.

Think he'll be called up again and grow into it though. would be surprised if he gets many more caps. we're not going to be this good ever again, and everyone isn't going to be injured at the same time again. probably the end of the road for him if he's not even getting a chance after this year.

I didn't think he'd pick Drinky but Henderson and Wilshere really aren't better options at all and in fairness, Sterling and Lallana dont deserve to go ahead of Townsend.

He has displaced some quailty French players to do that based on his title winning midfield performances for Leicester. Drinky for England can't even get in the squad! Not even in the squad. And the players in front of him wouldn't be able to lace some of the French players boots. And the media wonder why we haven't won anything since 66. I get what you're sayiong but Kante is a better player than Drinkwater. If Kante was English he'd walk into our starting line up and if Drinkwater was French he probably would have made the French squad, but not started. Spain left out Mata and Costa cos they've had underwhelming seasons. Germany has left out Reus cos his fitness is questionable, a bit like Sturridge. Other nations have no problem leaving out big names if they need to.
