England v Iceland

And that my friends, is what a team looks like... Iceland obviously.

Team Spirit and organisation goes a hell of a lot further than talent alone.

As for the England boys, I didn't think they could get any worse when it comes to tournaments, but fvck me they've proven us all wrong again.

Just watched the match on time shift without knowing the result beforehand. Haven't had time to read though this thread so sorry if I'm repeating stuff.

Congratulations to Iceland for a well deserved victory!

With Iceland's style of play and blue kit, and with commentators and pundits alike arrogantly dismissing their "quality", I couldn't shake off the feeling that I was watching Leicester play Spurs!

English football now needs a shake up from top to bottom, from the FA to the tea lady. At least we are rid of Roy. He can at least console himself with the 20m he's scammed over the last 4 years.

Shame Vardy was brought on. He would have been better off not being involved in this shambles.

Thing is i have zero confidence in the FA to change anything, an inept organisation who are not even capable of appointing the right man let alone that man then succeeding.

I suppose the sad thing is i was not surprised by how poor we were this summer or that we got turned over by Iceland or that i am not deflated ..... i just dont care about england football team.

Sat at Narborough station waiting for the train to Birmingham. Still wondering how the Hell Hodgson could take that bunch of players and make them play so badly.

Also wondering whether the players themselves are really that bothered?

Sad day to be an England football fan.

pretty hungover in work (even though I weren't drunk last night, madness) and still dead confused. we lost to iceland. step too far tha.

It's all about mentality...siege mentality, and no fear. To be fair the last 2 tournaments the media have not made England ouf to be world beaters. No pressure and they still fook up. There's something proper wrong I'm afraid

and to think I got up at at 4.30 in the morning to watch that...!!!

Its been tough being a Pom over here today.... (actually since last Friday... actually all the time.... unless you follow Rugby, which I don't - maybe I should... soooo tired...)

Soon as clown face picked the squad I knew we wasn't going to go far.

Well done Roy now give all those travelling fans a slice of that 5million you scam every year!

Congrats to 3 game world beater jack messi Wilshere was well worth taking him.

Embarrassed by ****ing Iceland, roll on the start of the season lets see a proper team play again not 11 of the best.

Rooney should retire absolutely bottled it second half.

Wow reading the last 4 pages it's easy to understand why the national team is a mess.

Kicking your own seems a national sport in this country

Very sad and very unsavoury

The manager was a disaster And the team a mess from pressure

Some people on here need to man up themselves

There's no pressure. The team is a mess because of the manager and poor attitude. The likes of Kane, Sturridge, Sterling playing for themselves not for the team. I said the follow after the Russia match when someone asked why people expect England to win tournaments, there's no expectation other than to do our best.

I don't expect us to win. I expect us to play our best players in a good formation and try and beat teams. I expect our highly paid manager to know what subs to make to see out wins against poor opposition. We've never played our best players, we always shoehorn in names. We've come to a tournament with a squad built not to play the formation we started it with. I expect us to turn up knowing what we want to do and how we want to play, not experimenting in game one. I don't feel entitled to see us win anything but I do expect us to give ourselves the best chance of it, even if we do end up out in the groups. Right now, and in recent years we haven't done that.

That's not the expectation of the media and majority !

Once again highlighting players

It's a team game

The manager was a disaster , it stems from him

I don't think the media built us up this time. Even the pundits were saying they didn't expect us to win anything.

And of course I'm going to highlight players if I feel they are affecting the team. Kane's insistence on stepping up for nearly all set pieces, his insistence on shooting almost every time he has the ball within 40 yards of goal were adversely affecting the England team performance.

But yes you're right in the sense it all stems from Hodgson, he's been a total failure. Poor selections, no game plan, not got the balls to take poor performing players out of the firing line, I'm guessing (because it kept happening) either not having the balls or the vision to see the things like Kane on set pieces wasn't working and telling him he was being taken off them, it's been a catalogue of failures over the past 4 years.

I'd love to see a highlights reel of Kane's performance last night.

Sure, I've got five seconds to spare.

On another point, anyone see Waddle speaking twaddle on Breakfast a few minutes ago? He was saying, "can you remember the England managers of the 70s and 80s? I can't." Stupid git can't remember his own manager.

Things get exaggerated a bit, but that's natural after such a massive disappointment and humiliation.

Clearly, several players in the England team are good players. All of them get slated because England consistently play below par.

Ireland won't moan because they don't have the quality for more. But if they ended up last in a qualification group, they'd get slated too.

This. Easy for a fan of a nation who wildly exceeded expectations to make flimsy, flowery comments about how we should all love eachother.

People need to take responsibility, especially when they are the ones to create hype around "not fearing anyone" etc. Joe Hart, Roy Hodgson in particular.

Genuinely think Kane's performances might have been the worst of any player at the tournament.

You'd be hard pressed to give him above a 3/10 in any game he played in

I've been trying to work out why he was so prolific for Spurs last season yet so poor for England.

I think that despite the large number of Spurs players in the side, England played in an un-Spurs-like way. No counter attacking as a team, a lack of quality ball from the midfield.

We were more like Man Utd, tapping it around in areas that did no harm.

Kane was reduced, as we all saw, to being ball greedy, most of it outside the box.

Watching Kane ambling about with that vacant open mouthed gaze of his summed the performance up better than any other image from England's performance in the tournament

Harry Kane's free kicks though lol

That one where he tried to look like Bale/Ronaldo but shanked it almost as wide as Robert Huth's free kick. Amazing.

That one was more embarrassing than Huth's - at least Huth could say he was distracted by Drinky dummying/"I'm only taking a free kick for a laugh".

Kane didn't even slip, he's just a massive gormless overhyped shitboat. Ridiculous that he/Roy didn't learn from the pre-tournament friendlies or first 2 games that Kane + set pieces = pure embarrassment.

I have to say (as much as I dislike Kane every other day) he really was completely useless yesterday. Not one single redeeming factor at all.

Which is great news as he'll probably start next season off really shit!
