Who will be next captain then? As I expect Rooney will do the right thing and retire from international football immediately.

Dier is young, but he's got quality. Will be one of the corner stones of future England squads. Might as well give it to him.

That is the worst performance I have ever seen from an England side in my life.

Where on earth do you even start with that?

Lets go chronologically - the start, genuinely encouraging, straight at the them and won a penalty through a searching ball from Sturridge and clever movement from Sterling. Penalty nicely tucked away. The early goal is there, fears eased.

But that is quite literally the last positive you can take from tonight.

We managed to retain that lead for a monumental 34 seconds. What the hell the defence were doing I've no idea. Kyle Walker who's been impressive in this tournament so far, asleep, undone by a long throw lol.png

But that second goal, that's the most abysmal goal I think we've ever conceded. What the hell was going on? Their forward has picked the ball up, not had a single challenge has come in, before he's gone and hit the tamest of shots and Hart, when it was easier to save it, has somehow let it in, for the third time this tournament, the undroppable, "world class" Joe Hart has been at fault. It was so pathetic that I, yes, ME, actually felt sorry for Hodgson. You can't account for defending like that. It's unacceptable.

The rest of the game doesn't need any detail. It was exactly the same as the other games - no good movement going forward meaning we resort to hit and hope football against a well organised side and unsurprisingly we look completely clueless as usual. Kane, Alli and Sterling had absolutely pathetic tournaments. The rest tonight did next to nothing either. The lot of them tainted anything positive they'd done.

We have displayed an unjust arrogance throughout the tournament. We beat the dross in qualifying playing this way and thought we were good enough to go through this tournament doing the exact same, even though most of the time we won games because of a bit of individual magic rather than cohesive teamwork.

Plenty of you have called me negative, a whinger etc... throughout. You lot sadly kidded yourselves. You saw us beat the absolute shit in qualifying and thought it was enough. Time to face the facts - we haven't progressed at all. We have failed to get anywhere near the best out of our players AGAIN.

Iceland. ****ing laughable. Forget 2014 - this is the absolute nadir, and we need a complete change in mindset going into these qualifiers.

Maybe they should concentrate on actually qualifying rather than relying on other teams to bring them excitement lol

If you want to watch a movie you don't go buy a video camera and build a set now do you?

i hereby retract every supportive encouraging comment I have made in Hodgson's favour.

Clueless, unimaginitive, no fresh ideas. Couldn't make a plan B. Crap at Liverpool. It's great when things go well for him but when he's up against it he doesn't know what to do

Some twat on R5 is suggesting Pardew should be the next manager FFS!!!

Iceland are ranked lower than Ecuador, Bosnia & Northern Ireland lol

Next manager needs to be Derren Brown, they need some hypnotherapy to relax. Look at how we (City) played when needing a late goal, composed, keep doing the right things, keep plugging away, none of this failing to trap a pass or shooting from bonkers distances / angles. If anyone should have felt tension it was us, getting in such a position but they had nerves of steel week in week out.

We (England) could have focused on our pace but instead Kane and Tottenham with their pointless possession stats became the focus, sideways and backwards passing, no desire to break quickly on the counter attack, letting one player hog all the shots and set pieces. Wrong decision by Hodgson, these players showed last season that they freeze when the going gets tough. Coupled with favouritism for established players Roy missed an opportunity to field the type of side the country wanted. Just waiting for the press to be hypocrites, they all seemed to want Kane over Vardy and got their wish.

I've been off duty all day only to come back home to this result.

lol lol lol

It's ok, you topped the group in the qualifying stages...

:crylaugh:

But somehow, I don't know whether I ought to feel sad or Schadenfreude here - after all, you're England, the cradle of modern football...

You aren't the only one. There were many, on here, who were convinced he was the right man to take us on from the World Cup. And after the utter debacle that was! Many have been left with not only an egg on their face, but a whole box of em

Roy Hodgson needs to apologise to the nation. This is the 4th saddest day of my life.

No hint of any apology in that resignation, rehearsed drivel. Nothing. Not even a 'despite my best efforts I acknowledge I've let people down here'.

Nothing.

A disgrace.

I thought he was a good choice in 2012.

Experienced international manager, taking over just before a major tournament with little time to prepare and most importantly he wasn't Harry redknapp.

2014 obviously went tits up but I actually think we were better in that tournament than this one. We lost narrowly to a decent Italy side (who lest we forget reached the euro 2012 final) and Uruguay (reigning Copa America champions). In both games a draw probably would have been fair.

This on the other hand has been an unmitigated disaster. I'm absolutely happy to say I got it wrong when I said Hodgson should stay on because the "quality" of football we've played has been poor. Sterile "domination", playing the ball around in front of the opposition defence before Sturridge or Kane lose patience and blooter it over.

Harry Redknapp couldn't have done any worse. In fact, very few could. The reality is he has been utterly clueless AND utterly boring at the same time. If you couldn't see this before then......well you get my drift.

I dont think ive ever felt so disinterested in a tournament in my life. Whats even more shocking is that even though i wasnt interested i also have never felt so mad and wanting to snap an england managers neck in two.

Woy you tw@t. Glad you are gone but id like to see the whole FA resign. Woy got paid but you silly tossers hired him in the first place. I reckon any armchair manager on this forum could have done more then those knob ends.
