justfoxes Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 What a huge loss for the club seeing Walsh leave, the best talent spotter in the business wonder know who we will get in to fill his role and keep us finding up and coming talent ? Wonder how much compensation City will receive from Everton?

deep blue Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 As Walsh is 63 maybe he isn't such a loss - close to retirement and perhaps looking for his last big payday to boost his pension. We must have been planning for his retirement and building up the expertise to replace him. I've just been reading up about out recruitment department and have found 64 year old Head Coach David Mills who has worked very closely with Walsh and will have lots of experience to pass on. Then there's David Johnson, ex-Ipswich striker, who we took on last December to scout at U21 level - he has had 4 years experience at Chelsea and has a reputation as a good judge of a player. Looks like we have plenty of cover for Walsh leaving.

Guest Basildon Fox Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 People come and go. We have people at the club who will have worked closely with him so should know how to continue the recruitment side. As for depressing times, our sports science guy left for Arsenal and it did not make any difference so why should this.
Jon the Hat Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 Maybe he just wants one last challenge in his career
EnglishOxide Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 Good luck to him in his new role. DoF is a promotion and he is probably earning double what he did here. He along with Pearson, Shakespeare and Ranieri built us up to this point. We are in an incredibly strong position and aren't just going to fall off a cliff now that he is leaving. It's important to have a good season and appoint/promote the right guy to replace him, and thanks to him we should have the infrastructure to do that with confidence. Lose Cambiasso, get Kante... Lose Pearson, get Ranieri.... Lose Walsh get ?? The point is its not the end of the world, and in reality with Walsh the cat is out of the bag now anyway and his influence and ability to shape our team on a strict budget would take a natural trajectory south due to our new found fame and finances.
howlinmadmurfdoc Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 All this heartache over the man that signed Ryan Mcgivern and Astrit Adjarevic.

Hitesh Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 I'm hoping he's woken up and thought to himself, whilst enjoying his warmed up Weetabix, why am I leaving? But if not, then wish him all the best. Big loss and disappointed but no point in crying about it. We move on, and hopefully we have a setup in place to find an adequate replacement.
dpjfox Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 Hopefully our ("bargain basement transfer targetting"), are behind us and the structure/network he has left behind can continue to operate well. Thanks for everything Steve good luck

RowlattsFox Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 Does a director of football usually do much player scouting? Maybe he's had enough of the travelling.

Number 6 Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 When this rumour first started I was pretty gutted that we might lose one of the best scouts in the business. We have just had the best season in our history and now our prized assets are being cherry picked. Thinking about this though, it might not be the disaster some think... The system is in place. Walsh was head honcho and had final say on players - and obviously had a great talent for doing so - but the profiling, numbers, reports etc were done by others. This will continue to happen (hopefully) and someone else will have the final responsibility of the yes/no. It might mean we get a few more misses than we have been, or it might mean we carry on as usual, but the process of scouting and signing a player hasn't changed too much. Yes Walsh spotted Mahrez at that game but perhaps his replacement wasn't at that game and so didn't have the opportunity. His age has also been mentioned on here. We were going to have to replace him eventually (not sure the length of the contract he recently signed). Given that, now might be as good a time as any. If we want to poach from elsewhere then we have a lot to offer right now. People talk about Walsh like he's the only man who can spot a player but others have had good track records recently: particularly Southampton who have a conveyor belt of talent, but also the likes of West Ham and Stoke have done well in the transfer market. Also think it is likely that any potential impact will be a couple of years down the line. The impact this summer should be negligible (unless Everton start throwing money at people we're after) and I imagine targets will be lined up for a while. I don't think the list of players we'll have been looking at would have been for this coming season alone. If we manage to maintain a decent league position this season hopefully the tag of 'one season wonders' will drop, making attracting players that little bit easier. I'm not saying there is no impact at all, he was great at his job and vital to our recent success. But perhaps the nervousness stems from the fact that we had pretty sh*t scouting in place beforehand. The process under Sven was just to throw money about at anything with a pulse. As long as we don't return to that, there's no reason we can't continue to pick up the Mahrezes of this world. Now, let's put in a big bid for Ross Barkley just to p*ss Everton off...
SportsNut1908 Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 I understand the disappointment, I don't understand the utter meltdown. There are many top professionals across Europe that will be licking their lips at the prospect of working for Leicester City. Fantastic setup, money sloshing about to invest & a winning first team that doesn't require wholesale changes every window. Believe it or not we aren't the only club in European football that scout efficiently & buy well. What is important is that the club recruit for this position & don't try to fudge a combination of Rudkin & increasing Claudio's role. Hire an expert to fit into this well established system. I'm not trying to detract from the job Walsh has done, I'm just saying that this is normal, in football it happens. It definitely isn't the end of the world.
whitlock Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 He rightly gets the unearthing of Mahrez title, but, even if I went to the game to watch Mendes and saw Riyad playing and playing well, I would of gone back to the club to say, have a look at him! I'm sure there is going to be a slight impact but as long as we keep our scouting structure and replace him sensibly, then I think we'll be fine. I I don't think Everton should get ahead themselves and think they will be signing another Mahrez, Vardy and Kante overnight and winning the league next season. I feel they'll be making more measured signings rather than the dross they have signed. Structure and graft has been put in place, we just need to ensure it is maintained, continued and I know we'll be fine.

He goes with my best wishes and we move on... business is business, its not about been all friends. kante should have been told he can rot in the reserves or see out his contract wiht pride. walsh should have been given a choice of gardening leave or carry on with us.

Bluearmyfox28 Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 If it is for family reasons then fair play to the bloke, he's in his sixties. Not like he has a whole life in front of him.
Phube Posted 20 July 2016 Posted 20 July 2016 What's confusing me is Everton's sheer cheek in thinking, "Ey up, we're a bit shite, let's steal the head scout from the League Champions!" And not only that, seemingly getting away with it!? Are we just not 'big' enough to think like this, we only seem to take player/staff from lower leagues... BTW has he gone yet, I'm bored of it now!?
