Gueye from villa! 2nd to Kante in France and pushed him hard in the prem last season despite having 10 useless players around him. Id take a gamble on him for £7.6m release clause he has

We can replace Kante with another midfielder from our current squad, whoever it is we won't be getting another Kante.  What we cannot afford to lose is the team spirit that carried us to the title last season so although his talent will be missed, I'd rather we used another squad member who is prepared to give everything to the cause than go out into the market again.

Being honest, I wouldn't be overly concerned if we didn't bring in a Kante replacement. At current, we have Amartey, King, Inler, James, Mendy and Drinkwater.

IF, and I emphasize the word IF, if all of the CM's I've mentioned stay at the club this summer, there's enough adequate players in there for me, who I think could play for us and do what we require to a very good level. Not denying they won't be the same as Kante because they are all individually different style players, and it could difficult to find a player up to, or near N'Golo's kind of calibre. Amartey I see as one of our most energetic midfielders and nearest to what Kante does.

I'd welcome a midfielder signing no doubt but wouldn't be gutted if not. I've mentioned in the other thread, I see the strike position as a key, important area where we need investment in still, personally.

The club are building a British core. British based players = more likely to stay loyal.

Robbie Brady please. (I know he's Irish but you know what I mean)

For me, a fully fit Matty James walks into that side alongside Drinky

If drinkwater/james can get their partnership going again and with mendy sitting behind them, that would be a verryyyyy strong central midfield.

That's not a bad call, I think that in seasons past most of us thought him to be more promising that DD. It's just the keeping him fit bit does seem to be a problem sadly

Hope James gets fully fit again.

The Drinkwater/James partnership was bizarrely never tried in the prem. The only time I remember Pearson using Drinkwater/James in the middle together was 2nd half vs Spurs.

I feel like Lemina is the obvious choice. If we play a midfield 3, we're going to want someone with a little flair. Mendy will be our beast, Drinky will be industrious as always, and Lemina can be that little bit different.

I'd have to watch James again, to me he is 5th choice right now. All I can remember from his Prem games are him not being able to pass, shoot or beat the first man on a corner, but everyone was pretty shit that season.

Our team is built on energy and work rate and Kante epitomised that, we will need someone who can run all day but also have the tactical awareness to stop opposition attacks like he could. Walshy go get him!
