49er Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 With Kante sold, our net spend thus far is virtually nil. I'm sure that the owners must have had in mind a net transfer kitty of around £50m, bearing in mind that Pearson spent circa £20m just to keep us up. So, how do we spend the £50m? - Slimani or Milik - Perisic - Carvalho -Sigurdsson - Quality defender

ramadaone Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Mendy, Amartey, Choudhury. Would much rather bring through Choudhury then buy another player. Then you are quite clearly totally clueless
Realist Guy In The Room Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Yeah come on Ramadaone. Please throw us a big juicy transfer bone.
TheMightySystem Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Then you are quite clearly totally cluelessOuch, well apologies for having faith in the players currently at the club, what do you think then?
sylofox Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Why does it matter? really got interested Just wondered you come across sometimes as life long. But I don't think you are.
tsintskaro Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Just wondered you come across sometimes as life long. But I don't think you are. haha whats the problem, why are you annoyed If i am not life long fan i have no moral right to post things like "i prefer lemina" and e.t.c? i have never seen that "i am bigger fan than youso shut up" attitude from elder fans here, but i assume you are the one, arent you?
jayfox26 Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 he has the afro of a man ready to win the champions league far as I'm concerned Tell that to Fellaini
deep blue Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 If Sissoko's attitude/consistency could be improved, might he be the man? Was very impressed with his speed bringing the ball forward out of defence in the Euros - that would fit our "breaking forward" style - but i'm not sure he had the same qualities as Kante in his defensive play (reading the play, tackling, intercepting).
Tielemans63 Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 I know CR has said numerous times that Mendy isn't a direct replacement for Kante but I think he quite clearly is. At the start of the summer CR said that Kante could only go if a replacement was found first. With Nampalys signing last week and Kante leaving almost straight away afterwards it seems like that replacement has already been made. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
hornyhollthefox123 Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 If Kante had told Ranieri months ago that he was off I guess that might explain the potential shift to 433. In a 442 Kante is almost irreplaceable. Playing 2 in the middle brings out the best in him. If we play 442 then we have to go for energy, drive and box to box. A la Sissoko's performance in the euros final but still unsure whether I'd want him given his inconsistency. Assuming we do play 433 then the same issue arises. If we play one holding midfielder and two in front then we already have plenty of options for the holder: Mendy , inler , drinks. IMO we surely will go for a big replacement for him but I wouldn't be overly shocked to see a midfield 3 of Mendy Drinkwater King otherwise at Hull.
Reg Vardy Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Find it amazing, lose Kante, and fine player he is.....and we go into meltdown on here and on the 100+ pages on the transfer page. He is one player of eleven. We have Mendy, Inler (yes Inler) Amartey, James, and dare I say Schlupp, plus a month to the season......with 32 million to spend.....we will miss him, but didn't we say that's the league gone when Vardy got suspended....and what happened? We will replace the player, Claudio has to push the collective responsibility into the other ten team members, and I have every confidence he will do that. Drinkwater was simply outstanding last season, and will be even better next. My faith in the collective team spirit in the squad, plus some shrewd business being done with more to come, is such that they will come together and the new collective will be better than the sum parts of a single player leaving....
ian_marshall Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Gueye is the one for me. Similar stats to Kante, realistic target in the current market as he'd surely want to come to us rather than stay at Villa, and financially shouldn't be held to ransom. What's really appealing about this one is that he was our top target before we signed Kante, so we've clearly carried out our due diligence on him and consequently I don't think he'd represent a risk.
Gerard Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Gueye is crap in spite of his stats according to a lot of Villa fans. I really think people are solely looking at interception and tackling stats and saying he'll do.
thegaffa Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Gueye is crap in spite of his stats according to a lot of Villa fans. I really think people are solely looking at interception and tackling stats and saying he'll do. would you rather replace Kante with a defensive midfielder or a more attacking minded one? I personally would bring in a defensive midfielder and I think Gueye fits that criteria especially statistically. He may not be a playmaker type however he could be a decent replacement.
Max Power Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 We aren't going to replace Kante like for like. I think the Mendy signing and a mooted switch to 4-3-3 shows we never thought we could keep him. If 4-3-3 is an option I'd like us to sign a more attack minded midfielder, someone who can find a pass, run with the ball a bit, get into the box. Lemina seems a good fit from the names linked. Him and Drinkwater just ahead of Mendy in a midfield three
Kitchandro Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 No individual can replace Kante. There is no player in world football who can do what he does as well as he does. In fact I'd suggest even his type of player is extremely rare. It's a fair point to suggest that we may need two players to fill his role. But a change of formation has it's risks as well. We need to make sure we're still getting the best out of our team in an attacking sense and not get lured into a more defensive strategy because we're worried about protecting the back 4. That was not Kante's only contribution by any means but it was the most important one. In short, losing Kante leaves us with a real conundrum. However I trust Claudio to make the most of what we've got.
pazzerfox Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Gueye is crap in spite of his stats according to a lot of Villa fans. I really think people are solely looking at interception and tackling stats and saying he'll do. I think it highlights more the wretchedness of the rest of the Villa team. Is Kante simply a superb player, or one who is perfect for the role he has been given in a Leicester team who do not try to dominate possession, but wanted someone who could slot in within a structure to regain the ball and give it simply to better technicians? After all, he plays fewer passes per game than Gueye, finding colleagues with a lesser percentage. So, if they exchanged employers, would the Senegalese be lauded now if he was producing similar numbers in the Leicester midfield and the Frenchman castigated now Villa are relegated despite his presence?
fuchsntf Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 We dont need any replacement for Kante...!!! . We just require another player with other talents that compliments our no1 squad. Ranieri seasons begin is being asked to tinker, because of natural player movement, and not due to availability. Why worry..??

ian_marshall Posted 16 July 2016 Posted 16 July 2016 Gueye is crap in spite of his stats according to a lot of Villa fans. I really think people are solely looking at interception and tackling stats and saying he'll do. He played in a poor Villa side that had absolutely no leaders or character and subsequently got relegated so I don't think that is indicative of his ability. I also can't imagine that we would have invested the time to research, scout, and submit a bid for him last summer if he didn't fit the mold of our recruitment process. As to whether he'd be a good enough replacement to completely fill the void left behind by Kante is irrelevant. Even if Kante remained I'd still like us to recruit a similar style of player as we need strength in depth ahead of what is most likely to be a very long season, and we'll need to rotate more frequently if we want to maintain our style of play.
