Gerard Posted 17 July 2016 Posted 17 July 2016 If we are to play a 4-3-3 next season I'd like us to sign a high stamina player who can play box to box with an emphasis on attacking ability. Mendy holding whilst Drinkwater and the new signing play the box to box role.

I wouldn't mind Joao Moutinho to help add some experience and something else in midfield against more defensive teams. Claudio took him to Monaco, i'm not sure how much he would cost now.
TJB-fox Posted 17 July 2016 Posted 17 July 2016 Moutinho is a bit washed up sadly guys (imo) and not sure he has the legs to compete in the premier league anymore. If he could come here and replicate his previous form he'd be unreal, utterly delightful footballer.

Dan Posted 18 July 2016 Posted 18 July 2016 I've warmed to this Lemina idea a lot more. I think he looks a very decent all-round player. Technically very sound and physically very sound. He's quite young as well. Mendy Drinkwater - Lemina I could get on board with.
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 18 July 2016 Posted 18 July 2016 Either Lemina, N'Zonzi, Carlvalho or what about Winjildum (I think that's how you spell it) from the toon?
TJB-fox Posted 18 July 2016 Posted 18 July 2016 For a minute there I thought we'd moved on to a replacement for Claudio Oops, corrected! Don't worry claudio wants to stay unlike some

Reading between the lines I get the impression Kante wasn't happy with something, whether it was the city or something/someone in the club. He couldn't wait to leave and could have gone to a much bigger club than Chelsea if he had held on, linked with PSG, Real, Arsenal. Claudio was aware of this which is why he said what he did about not wanting unhappy players. Unfortunately we will probably never know the truth just rumours and speculation and Kante will be branded a snake and booed when Chelsea come to the KP.
dylanlegend Posted 18 July 2016 Posted 18 July 2016 If we are looking for purely a solid DM, I was impressed with Jan Kirchhoff at Sunderland
Foxymcoxy Posted 18 July 2016 Posted 18 July 2016 Is Amartey likely to be more involved this season? Don't think he'll be breaking into the first 11 but between him getting more involved, James coming back and Mendy signing we already have more options than last season. Still wouldn't mind another one if we believe it's a quality signing, not just for the sake of it.
Rusko187 Posted 18 July 2016 Posted 18 July 2016 Mendy was signed as our Kante. Suspect Inler will go, personally would like to see another 2 midfielders, winger, right back and centre back. We've essentially paid out nothing in this transfer period... let's blast some cash. And for gods sake can we please match Mahrez salary expectations to Vardys, don't know why we faff about so much at times!
hornyhollthefox123 Posted 18 July 2016 Posted 18 July 2016 All of these shouts for Carvalho, Gueye etc are fine but they wouldn't do what Kante did. Kante allowed us to play in a 2 man midfield and genuinely was box to box. Although not a goal threat he was able to pick the ball off quickly and travel past players with it at speed. Carvalho,Witsel, Gueye etc are all good defensively but wouldn't be the best once the ball is turned over in terms of going past players with it and supporting the break. We have lots of solid defensive options who are good on the ball but other than King none would guarantee us goals or get forward often enough in a midfield 3 IMO. If we play a midfield 2 then it may well be Mendy, Drinkwater but if we play a 3 unfortunately unless we sign someone new we won't have the ability to drive past players and support any breaks. Amartey may be naturally the nearest thing we have to an athletic box to box option although unsure how suited he'd be to being the most advanced of a midfield 3 A Sissoko or Lemina type would give us that ability and IMO on paper at least would work well in a 3 with Drinks and Mendy.
Sly Posted 19 July 2016 Posted 19 July 2016 Lets go and spend £105m on Paul Pogba to show everyone we mean buisiness

I Think Idrissa Gueye would be a good replacement. Clearly Steve Walsh and Everton rate him aswell (I think we were linked to him when we were in for Kanté). We should get him in for that money. He's the closest we'Il get to a direct replacement to Kanté, in terms of his stats. So why the hell not? - before anyone says "because he's shite", please back up your statement.
notnow john Posted 26 July 2016 Posted 26 July 2016 Last season, our number one target was Charles Aranguiz and Kante was his replacement when he chose BL. I know he had a bad injury but regained fitness and went to Copa America this summer. He looked outstanding before the injury. Has anyone seen any info on his current status?

He'd be a perfect replacement for Kante. I doubt we'd go in for him again, after he rejected us for Villa last season...Shame.

Didn't we sign Inler when we couldn't sign Aranguiz? Amazing to think Claudio needed Steve Walsh to practically beg him to sign Kante, and now they are both gone. Kante was definitely a long term target though and I think that the Inler/Aranguiz saga was more of a late bloomer instigated by Ranieri.
