But the way some people are talking about him on here as if he's a kante or Mahrez to us. He's a squad player who IS replaceable. Jeff for me is way to inconsistent & when your aiming for Europe you can't have much inconsistency. I find that a bit of a lame argument - you won't find many players on this planet who are that consistent over a prolonged period of time. Everyone can have a bad spell occasionally, but sometimes you don't notice it because the team around the individual player steps up.

It will be interesting to find out what is going on exactly i suspect a lot more behind the scenes than we are aware of just hope it involves signing some new players still as I don't think we have the required strength in depth yet

RowlattsFox Posted 16 August 2016 Posted 16 August 2016 Still don't know how I feel about this. I laugh at the thought of getting £12m for him but then also feel he is useful to have around.
cc_star Posted 16 August 2016 Posted 16 August 2016 Mistake to sell him, Gray is inconsistent and may or may not turn out ok for us, currently Musa, Mendy & Hernandez are unproven for us And while I'm aware & critical of Schlupp's shortcomings, his directness is when we need sometimes, someone who will just run with the ball into the box, is enough to make things happen sometimes
foxy boxing Posted 16 August 2016 Posted 16 August 2016 12 million is a good price for a player who is yet to hold down a position(is full back, winger, or striker) he is good in some games but not consistent enough although i will be sad to see him go because he was part of our title winning squad

Imagine the transfer window closing and us being weaker than when it opened but we've made a profit on transfers despite unprecedented income from elsewhere. Pointless
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 16 August 2016 Posted 16 August 2016 I've always been critical of players who spend years happily sitting on the bench whilst taking the money showing no ambition to get a regular first team spot elsewhere so credit to Schlupp if he wants to leave to get more games then fair play to him.

It seems to be the way we're heading though, which I can't get my head around. Maybe we need the money to cover bonuses/wage increases? Saving up for a stadium expansion?

RedSoxUK Posted 16 August 2016 Posted 16 August 2016 There's a lot of arguments here for and against Schlupp, but ultimately I think as a club we should not stand in his way if he has a desire to play consistent 1st team football. That's just something we can't offer in our current position unfortunately, and I would be very worried if a player who has come through our ranks, trained by various managers in various different positions has no desire to be the best he can be and doing it for 90 minutes every week. So if Ranieri does not see Schlupp in his 18 man squad every week, then there's really no option other than sell to the highest bidder slap on a big sell on and pray he does not raise his footballing IQ. Even at £12m it seems a steal for Pullis and West Brom, this is a Premier League winner who is extremely versatile who probabbly still has his best years ahead of him. If he goes to WB for 12, then yeah; IMO that's the best signing all summer; he will be fantastic there and Pulis knows it.
desertfox2 Posted 16 August 2016 Posted 16 August 2016 Still in the car park working out which BMW is his hence the delay.... On a serious note he will be a great signing for West Brom. Starting to have doubts on this... if Kaputska is way better then it's a no brainer. Hard to say without seeing Kaputska play for us though. Jury still out on grey, Could be a great player but at the moment seems a bit lightweight. To the point I think Schlupp might be a little better for how we play right now.
hackneyfox Posted 16 August 2016 Posted 16 August 2016 Can someone who thinks he's versatile please name at least 3 games where he's been a decent left back, same applies as striker.

I'v asked this many times as well. I think the last time he played up front was for a game in the Championship, at left back he was so hopelessly incompetent it made me cry and we got a glimpse of it in the Charity Shield again, I think he was only on the pitch for about 4 minutes before the right winger found acres of space to cross and drop it on the head of Zlatan to score. He's a left winger or a desperation punt at full back, you would think he was Luis Enrique the way some people talk.

When I think of Jeff at LB i think of that playoff semi against Watford away. He looked like he literally had no idea what he was doing, absolute car crash.
