Selling a player for £12m who could well possibly be behind Musa, Albrighton, Gray & Kapustka for that left sided role. How many options do we need?
Foxes1 Posted 15 August 2016 Posted 15 August 2016 We do have some fantastic owners (I can remember the days of the Shipmans and also Martin George) with the amount of debt they have written off, but we need to build on last season and at the minute we do not seem to be doing that for whatever reason, by bringing quality players in we seem to be buying young players for the future which is all well and good but these type of players will only learn from more experienced ones (ie Cambiasso). Very few of the players have champions league experience which again should be vital for this season.

Too many people are letting last season's success go to their head. We're not a big club, we can't justify spending £100million on a player like Man U nor would top players come here if we could. The type of player we're buying is exactly the sort of player that a club our size should be buying and exactly the sort of player who brought us success in the previous few years.

No but it would be good to have a team capable of at least competing in the group stages of it, at the minute I don't think we have the experience to progress. But it will obviously depend on the draw.

Where did he say let's spend 100m on a player all he said is we need experience ie Cambiasso cant' rembember him costing a 100m.

inckley fox Posted 15 August 2016 Posted 15 August 2016 It's worth bearing in mind the net transfer spend of this board over their whole time here. If you begin at the end of August 2010, when Mandaric credited the prospective buyers with the funds for the Waghorn signing, and if you read 'undisclosed fee' as the approximate amount quoted by the Mercury (which probably isn't very reliable, I know), then they have made over a £48,000,000 loss on their dealings over those six years. On top of that you look at how Spurs have made a profit on their dealings over the past half decade or so. I'd agree that Champions shouldn't really be making a transfer profit (none of them have this decade), and there's no point in saying 'we're not seriously going for the league this year' (I find this rhetoric incredibly negative - surely you say 'we want to continue to improve, even if that isn't enough to retain the league or finish top four'). But it's important to remember that there's been a very significant investment year on year, quite a lot of which was for a second tier club.

Sniffer Clark Posted 15 August 2016 Posted 15 August 2016 Fox in the sox, I agree with what you say it's spot on,the Thais will spend money but not big money,we have signed a defender on a free who is IMO crap,we need some attention to our defence, which showed on Saturday the teams weakness

Don't forget we also need cover for Riyad as well. To me Jeff is third in line for left spot, possibly second and a good option for the bench each week. My order for wingers is: Mahrez Albrighton Gray Schlupp Musa Kaputska I think Musa was pretty ineffective as a midfielder on the left on Satuday and didn't try and go past his man. He's firmly a striker in my opinion and wanting to drift doesn't make him a winger (Vardy anyone?). I also think it's a season too soon for Kapi and he may play more in the middle and occasionally on the left. Really struggle who would come in if we sold Jeff and he's guaranteed a bench spot at minimum each week in my opinion
filbertstreet Posted 15 August 2016 Posted 15 August 2016 no news is good news far as I'm concerned, please don't go jeff!

Based upon the fact that 2 of those are unproven in the Premiership as recently signed, one is still raw and young whilst the established player in the first team has returned in preseason looking rusty I would suggest keeping Schlupp is a no brainer. Sadly it is more his appetite for guaranteed first team football that is driving the move.... personally I think he has all the qualities that we lack in the above - power, pace, directness....he is a great impact player. I thought he improved significantly last season and even in the preseason had made an impact but I doubt Claudio will be guaranteeing him a starting spot which will be the driver for his move!

Surely even you would have to concede we sell our reserve player for a price at some point? Pure guesswork and extremely hypothetical. Seeing what Chinese clubs pay for their foreign talent as of late, he wouldn't go for that amount of money, certainly not for the latter sums you mention. Apart from very few marquee signings in Europe's top leagues, such as Messi or Ronaldo, no player is safe from being sold (depending on time, age and price), and certainly not our own fringe players. That much is true.
