Webbo Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 Schlupp perhaps sees he's never going to be a regular starter here and WBA are probably offering him a good payrise. He probably wants the move and I don't begrudge him that.
EnglishOxide Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 When our whole style is built on pace, strength, athleticism and work rate it's an absolute mystery that we aren't fighting to keep him. He exceeds in all those qualities over our other wingers. £12m may be a lot of money for a squad player, but so what? Who are we going to buy who can do what Jeff does? Bolasie, for £25m? We don't need the money. If Musa is intended as a replacement then speed and finishing is his only advantage. In those ugly games, like the Hull match, we need a man like Schluup who will win the headers and the 50/50 tackles. If he leaves and we don't try to adjust our style to a more posession based style then it's very concerning.
mozartfox Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 Please Vichai tug him by the ear. Do not let this happen.. You did not get where you are today by letter people in your organization screw-up..

The reason being, we have got better players. I'm surprised you are suggesting we change our whole playing style because a squad player is leaving. Do you suggest we pay him even more money to stay?

As I said previously he played in most games last year and would have been a sub against Hull. you are talking as though he's someone who doesn't even make the team coach. You've even quoted Kapustka as in front of him and Kapustka hasn't played 1 min of English league football. Schluup has been and would be a crucial member of our squad with the possibility of getting even better yet. Of course we can pay him more if that's what's necessary, we have with everyone else.

Totally agree, I've agreed with every one of your posts but you seem to be pissing against the wind. A lot of the opposition against you seem to be from people who don't understand the difference between £1 and a tenner, they don't understand that everything has a price and sometimes it's great business to sell players who still offer something to the squad for offers greater than their value. as you say we might spend the proceeds of the Schlupp money by signing a player who automatically becomes first choice.
Dames Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 Lots of nostalgia in this thread. Schlupp isn't better than any of the first team options we have in any position - he's useful as an outlet for his pace but he's as likely to make a goal as well as contribute to conceding one. £12 million is a good price he's not a left back though and he's going to get found out massively at West Brom - he just doesnt have the concentration or composure.

When Apple sell their Iphone 7,8 & 9 will they be selling it cheaper to save the public a few quid or for as much as they can get away with? After all they're the richest company in the world so "they don't need the money".

If we had an upgrade on him signed - so the pace, stamina and strength with a better shot then I'd listen to offers but we haven't and probably never will so the only time I'd sell him (or any other player that we don't have an upgrade for) is during the final year of their contract when they've made it clear they won't sign a new one. We are making contracts not worth the paper they are written on from the pov of the club. What a ridiculous comment. What if a Chinese club offered £20m or £50m or £100m or £500m or even £1b? Surely even you would have to concede we sell our reserve player for a price at some point?

Lineker's Left Foot Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 Schlupp for £12m; I am sorry but yes please
TheLittleBigMan Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 I'm gonna miss ducking his shots in row z
Monsell1976 Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 If he had an end product, I would say don't sell. Jeff has come on a bit over the past couple of years, but he must know he's not good enough to demand regular starts. The other problem is, what is his position, left wing, left back, striker?, he's been used in all, but mastered none. A move for him might be best, and find his best role.
Guest Col city fan Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 Scouse will be over the moon. Just bring back Cambiasso and his year is made!
roblcfc84 Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 I don't see how we can justify keeping him in the squad having signed kapustka, with Gray looking like first choice. Jeff most likely wants to go and play week in week out. The club have been clear that if a player wants to go they will be allowed. They only thing we maybe should be doing is playing hardball over the fee. Jeff is loved because he's come through the system, he's quick and athletic but let's not kid ourselves - talking purely about footballing ability he's not great. Still if he was happy being part of the squad is keep him
Wymsey Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 Saturday's game would be perfect for him, against pacey wingers and fast counter-attacking play.
ARM1968 Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 He'll become a footballing God mark my word. Faster than Hermes, stronger than Hercules, schluppinstor of the Baggies.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 How much did Ibe go to Bournemouth for?? 15? Surely Schlupp is worth more if it was 15
dannythefox Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 Everybody saying don't sell including me but the point people are missing is the lad wants to be starting every week. Id love him to stay but don't think it's going to happen.
