Drygon Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 As the title says, what do you think about it? Personally, I've seen plenty of people (not only in FoxesTalk but in other forums as well) who's made lazy comparisons between Kanté and Mendy, mostly because they happens to come from the same country, the same league and supposedly the same position I think Mendy is fundamentally a different player as the former doesn't have the engine that Kanté does, Mendy sits further deep where he prevents the opposition from getting efforts on goal rather than disrupting their build-up play, runs with the ball far less, but arguably has better vision and a knack for a pass.
st albans fox Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 We haven't seen mendy play enough for us yet so how can we make a comparison?
weller54 Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Is it fair to compare Rachel Riley with Lisa Riley?
Nalis Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Probably not overly fair to compare at the moment but it wont stop people from doing it anyway.
Jaspa Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 No I dont at all, he's his own player and if we put the weight of N'golo's expectations on his shoulders its only making it harder for him to integrate properly. The only logic for comparison from pundits I've heard is 'he's about as short as N'Golo', and 'well they got him in when he left to play in his position'; asinine
foxy boxing Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 It's not fair they are two totally different types of midfielders with different attributes, Mandy is not as good a tackler as kante nobody is, we actually scouted Mandy before kante
Charl91 Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 If we're expecting anyone to be as good as Kante, then we're going to be disappointed. Hopefully he can be at least 75% as good as Kante though.
Wolfox Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Yes…. In answer to the OP's question we always compare players that play in similar positions…. They may well have different qualities, but, it's entirely reasonable to judge them based on what they contribute…
brucey Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Saw someone say that Drinky tackled loads in the Hull game? Can Drinky take over Kante's role, and Mendy take over Drinky's role?
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Totally unfair to try and compare them. Kante is a very rare, one off.
FoxonMaui Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Kante had the quickness to make interceptions and steal possession and transition our game from defense to attack. Mandy has yet to show anything like that ability. I have yet to see what exactly Mendy adds to our team.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 think it would be unfair to compare kante to mendy
LAprice_ Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 I bet the comparisons wouldn't even be made if Mendy was white. It's just lazy punditry in my opinion.
yorkie1999 Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Is it fair to compare andy king with mark clattenburg.

AyewJoking Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 i dont think its fair to compare this seasons kit with last seasons.
Dr The Singh Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 A lot of plaudits for his performance today from the media
m4DD0gg Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Shame he is now out with an ankle injury, looked nasty.

What's your point there?

Monsell1976 Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Mendy is looking a good player in his own right, he will be an arsenal target next summer

Wasnt involved and very pedestrian. Didnt look to get forward - there were two occasions of him halting momentum and going backwards when there were other forward passes available. There was a clear improvement in play as soon as king came on.
Sionnach gorm Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Saw the Chelsea game. Mendy didn't do any worse than Kante did. A lot of hustle from both. I like Mendy. I think we need to give him more time before we put our hand on it.
