Adrien Silva 'confirms' move to Leicester City from Sporting Lisbon

Sporting Lisbon and Portugal midfielder Adrien Silva has "confirmed" he will join Leicester City.

The midfielder, who was part of the Portuguese squad which won Euro 2016, claims he will leave Sporting for the Premier League in a reported £21m move in the current transfer window. Silva looks likely to follow Sporting team-mate Islam Slimani to the King Power Stadium as Leicester bid to complete a double raid on the 2015/16 Portuguese League runners-up.

In an interview with Porto-based newspaper O Jogo, Silva said: "Yes, I confirm this proposal. Leicester is very interesting and corresponds to my career goals. "After the past 15 years at Sporting, this opportunity is something exceptional for me and can allow me to express and impose myself in another championship, and also to evolve in the Premier League, which is a stunning league.

"I love Sporting as a family and I dedicated myself to the club since I was 12 years old. "With Sporting I lived many moments of happiness. I can say that I grew up with the club. At 27 years old, and after so many years of loyalty, I think that no one will criticise me for wanting to embrace this challenge."

Sporting fans... why would you want a players who isn't happy & put him in the b team if he carries on, rather than selling him to us for a very good price?

You all keep going on about how clever you are with your business yet I see this as poor business on your behalf. Your most loyal player/captain wants out of the club, that negativity will rub on to the rest of the dressing room without a doubt.

Just dont understand why someone would want to keep an unhappy player. If your not happy then you know where the door is & get the money in the meantime.

Was under the impression Amartey was a Kante type, and Mendy was a Drinkwater type? People are saying Silva is a Drinkwater type.

We need another Kante/Amartey type regardless of injury don't we, due to AFCON..

Not sure paying record fees to attempt switching formations/roles is a good idea as there is a decent chance it won't work as well as the current (title winning) formation/roles

I purposely didn't say a Kante type as he isn't, he's a different sort of player. People might say he's like Drinkwater, but I'm not one of them and I have no idea what gave them that impression.

He played as a DM for his previous club... it was just a different style of DM to Kante. He was good at keeping the ball, but nothing in his stats struck me as being Drinkwater like. He barely ever got forward, created chances etc. He just seemed to sit in front of the defence and ticked things over. He neither had the defensive stats of NG or the attacking ones of DD.

His signing was an odd one is he seemed to fit identically either role, but it would have made sense if we went to a 3, which is more than possible in certain games still. As I think that's what his former team played. Would make sense if we're going to try and be better in possession.

They dont care about that. Their president is very stubborn. I am pretty sure they will rather lose money than concede and accept the fact that the player wants to play for Lcfc.

Yeah. why don't you send them Luisão, Benfica's captain for over a decade that wants to leave and you don't let him?

I guess my Sporting correlatives have been talking and explaining things very well.

Adrien wont leave, I'm almost 100% positive about it. We'll only sell him for €45M and obviously you won't pay it. Why? Because thats too much for him. We all know that. The thing is, if you had came sooner, we would have sold him, most likely.

Since we've sold Joao Mario and now Slimani (99% guaranteed, for €30M to you, deal made quite fast on Saturday, as someone on Sporting Forum pointed out - someone who always knows everything about the club, lets put it this way), we simply, I repeat, simply don't want to sell Adrien. Thats why I was no surprised by the most recent news, claiming we'll only sell him for his clause. I have been saying it here since yesterday afternoon.

We knew Joao Mario was going to be sold. We also knew that for €30M, Slimani could leave. But there's a reason why we are saying Adrien won't. We are not humble, naives or something like that. We're just in touch with our club better than anyone else, we know how things work here.

Not sure what's gonna happen with Adrien though. I would sell him honestly, people are claiming he should get sit on the bench for the rest of his contract. Not sure if he's ever going to perform well again either, his statements were quite unexpected to everyone. But I wouldn't be surprised if our board rather prefered to sit him than to sell him. Thats the way Sporting works. Its not all about the money, it is also to show a strong position against all the football agents and everyone else involved. It has always been like this with this board and I kinda agree with that, although it might seem very fundamentalist.

The recent news about Jorge Mendes aren't any good. Our chairman has cut all kind of ties with him, even though he can get some of the best deals for some players and clubs, our board doesn't like him, doesn't do any kind of deals with him. That's something very well known here in Portugal.

Luisao can leave but I dont think he has that many clubs interested in him.

If he gets a good offer we will probably waive his release clause.

wave his release clause? Im 100% sure you would let him go on a free.

Hes 35years old and hes your worse centerback.

Luisão is suposed to be "benfica's heart" but he wants to drain every single penny you have.

He won't leave you unless you pay him the rest of his contract salary.

Nothing funnier than raging foreigners. Earlier this summer I was stopping off in Montenegro for a day or so and  I accidentally crossed into an old woman's back garden.. unknowingly ofcourse, simply to take some photos of the particular bay it was in, she proceeded to come out of her house shouting and screaming , then she decided to throw a bag of decomposing leaves at me. lol
