Liverpool post match 1-4

We'll have to go 3/4/1/2 or 4/5/1 in tougher away games from now on I think.

Fair in play to ulloa. Out of favour and on in tough circumstances. Was our best outfield player.

Maybe they win games against Swansea and Burnley with 4-4-2

but Ranieri should think about his oldschool tactics

i want to see this line up

Drinky-Mendy-Kapustka(he should be given a chance)

Mahrez-Vardy/Slimani(for last 30 minutes)-Gray(Musa for last 30 minutes)

2 players arent enough in midfield

actually Drinky was all alone against 3 liverpool players yesterday

Need a younger, hungry and energetic manager. Not one that's just good at communicating with the press

Yeh we don't need a manager that won us the premier league last season! Ranieri out!

Just to add an extra 10,000 people in attendance and still Anfield holds the myth of being a stadium with a great atmosphere. Absolute morgue filled by plastics. The absolute bewilderment some of their fans have at you actually singing during the game.

Thats not bitter, just fact. That stadium extension will be the death of any authenticity that Liverpool ever had.

I did have a work mate who told me when the stadium became all seater back in the early 90s, the ticket office at Anfield actively turned down applications for tickets with a Liverpool cost code over foreign applications. The footfall of a day tripper more like to spend plenty of dollar onto of their ticket.

Why would it be the death of Liverpool's authenticity?

If we make our ground bigger is that the end of our authenticity?

Anfield is a great stadium, it has a presence and it has character.

Have you ever been Anfield out of interest? I'd be interested to know what makes it have presence and character? When a good percentage of your fans turning up are Swedes, Americans, Irish and Far Eastern Asians, you lose that character.

The main stand at Anfield was built for the main purpose of corporate facilities. It wasn't built to meet a demand for tickets like we have here. On the train back, there were Liverpool fans travelling back (to Brum) with wristbands saying 'Carlsberg Dugout'. The kind of corporate day out type stuff the Americans sell at their sports. The owners at Liverpool haven't hidden it as well, particularly when announced an initial £77 cost for a ticket in the new stand.

It is symbolism of how the Premier League has evolved the sport away for the average person and affordability. In the process, all these stadiums have lost their character and authenticity. See Arsenal and the Emirates Stadium also.

I have been to Anfield many times. Maybe 5 times.

The ground to me has character and presence when i see things like the Hillbrough Memorial, the fans in the kop with the banners and holding up their scarves during youll never walk alone, the fact that the ground itself is right in the middle of a sprawling mass of old terraced housing where the ground is a big focal point, unlike a pointless bowl like the Ricoh, it just "feels" like youre at a proper club in a proper football ground. Its not easily quantifiable, its just an intuitive feeling. It feels like im in the presence of a club with heritage.

It obviously was built to meet a demand for tickets because Liverpool could sell more tickets, theyve wanted to move to a new stadium for years.

I dont care for your corporate ramble.

I guess we should agree to disagree.

Without wishing to continue this on and on, interesting to see that you mention about the terracing house because the majority around the stadium is all gone (again another debate how Liverpool whacked a loaf of CPOs on neighbouring housing with a disregard for rehousing them). The Kop? Well that's it, it probably sung three times yesterday? In a 4-1 win.

You are bang of the money with a sense of location mind. Hence why I like White Hart Lane but judging from Levy's 'regeneration plans', he wants to lose that feel. West Ham made the same costly mistake.

West Ham was a travesty of justice and should never have been allowed to move in there. The local team is Leyton Orient. but they were never even given the option. I suspect Wheeling and Dealing went on there for West Ham to get it.

Their Fans are very unhappy.

Liverpool 4 - 1 Leicester

This is the exact result i was expecting, Liverpool have moved way ahead of the rest of the Premier League and continue to score four
in almost every game.

We need to hold our nerve and learn how to come out on top playing twice a week.
Lite training sessions a little tinker here and there and keep our hunger for the games ahead.

Heads Up - Bring on the Champions League.
KEEP THE FAITH!

We were naive defensively I felt and the full backs were consistently out of position, but you have to give credit to Liverpool who were awesome. Amartey was also consistently out of position and I felt it affected Drinkys game too.

Not too worried because I don't think many teams in world football would have coped with that but we have to defend better.

Remember when we won the league?

We lost 5-2 to Arsenel about this time last season. What followed was magical.

It's going to be harder this season but it's a continuous improvement. Anyone who expected us to coast through this season is new to football. There are 34 games left. A lot can still happen this season and I'm certain we'll find our stride again soon.

Having joined this debate late on then I've not checked to see if anybody else has responded to this in the way I'm about to - but the so called 'tonking' we received re the Arsenal home game last season was right at the end of September and we'd been unbeaten up to that point. It was also a far more even game than the final scoreline suggested.

Nearly a year on, then by stark contrast it's not even mid September but we've already lost both of our away games, one to unfancied opposition and the other to superior opposition. At home then we've just about held a more mediocre Arsenal team this time around and nearly made a pig's ear of matters when beating a poor Swansea team! I suppose on a more philosophical front, looking away from the fact that we were outplayed all over the pitch yesterday, then Anfield has been an unlucky ground for us of late, dating back to our purple patches there in the O'Neill years.....but the reality for this season has to be alarm bells ringing already with the team formation yesterday and it's probably advisable to forget last season ever happened - as hard as it is for the team and fans alike to do that so soon after the event!

Obviously the loss of Kante has been massive and the team that was set up to revolve around him as it would turn out last season, is simply not the same without him so far, looking particularly frail in defence with nobody as he to soak up all the midfield pressure and in turn distribute the ball well to Mahrez/Vardy to set up endless counter attacks. Plus you would even have to question whether the appointment of Shakespeare as England Assistant Manager/Coach to Big Sam and the loss of Steve Walsh to Everton have had a negative impact on the season to date........

Obviously early days and I think we'll be ok but it certainly won't be a season remotely like the one just gone!

Posted

Well I preferred it when we were winning every week, but given what happened last season, I can stomach a more normal season as long as we don't go down.

Actually, even if we do, so be it, nothing can take away last season's achievements.

We still have a talented squad and just need to find a way to use them to the best advantage.

Re: Anfield, agree with Cardiff fox on most points.

Completely dead atmosphere wise to the point where you could hear the ref's whistle. Considering we conceded near on every 20 minutes I spent most of the game watching their fans 'celebrate' and that consisted of them whipping out a phones to record more than enjoying the fact they'd scored a goal.

Train back to London might as well have been their equivalent of Fox Travel and two Oirish blokes sat in the same quad as me chomping each other's ears off for 2 and a half hours.

The extension still looks "Anfield", but fvck me, it's a day out for more than just the away fans these days...

Our fans are more likely to sing about the opposition than their own team. It's ****ing embarrassing.

Is it always like that at Away games Dan? It's pretty embarrassing really.

Sometimes. It's better when we play more run of the mill sides like Watford.

All of the top clubs have day trippers which is why they are all quiet. Anfield, Emirates, Stamford Bridge, Old Trafford, Etihad (and West Ham will probably be the same now). Manchester United are brilliant away from home but at Old Trafford nobody makes noise. Probably because those fans don't go. Same with Manchester City and Maine Road was better in terms of atmosphere, character, noise than the Etihad will ever be.

Anfield is still a special away day for me. It's still intimidating walking up, it's a proper ground, and everything about it shouts tradition. Even walking under the Shankly Gates. The atmosphere isn't brilliant inside, yeah it's full of day trippers, but when your club is that big that's what happens. Liverpool and Manchester United in particular are large brands, known Worldwide, the biggest clubs in England but it'll always be quiet because it seems football is built up for day tripping nowadays.

Older grounds for me are still better. It's tighter and there's character. I'll miss going to Upton Park now, that was always one of my favourite away days. You only have to look at how we compare Filbert Street on here. I hope Liverpool never move, I hope Everton never move either. Great great football grounds.

One 'unknown' factor was Steve walsh's contribution away from transfer dealings.

None of us had any idea re any tactical input pre match (or during from his place high up in the stand).

and the player / manager relationship? Was that always via shakey if players didn't want to go straight to Claudio?

If things dont appear to improve over the next month or so, perhaps this will have been a factor ????

lets all be honest after the highs of last season this season looks like it could be very flat for us fans, maybe our expectations for this season after last season just were not realistic, who knows? we have started this season very poorly for whatever reason and we need to get back to how we were playing last season. we should maybe have thought about more defensive cover in the transfer market as the defense now looks like our weakest link.

The only thing more depressing than getting spanked by Liverpool, who were great by the way, is the doom mongers in here. I only read the first 4 pages of comments though. Couldn't take any more. It never ceases to amaze me how binary many of our fans can be. Last year Claudio was a tactical genius who knew how to win games in ways that Pearson couldn't dream of, now he's a clueless old guy who doesn't know what to do. And we have our so called fans now describing members of our own Champion winning team as shit.

Last year we were a star team greater than the sum of its parts. We now have a stronger squad than 12 months ago. It's all about small margins. The Champions Cup was terrible preparation for us IMO. But the main thing is losing Kanté. His contribution affected so many fine margins in each game. He stopped threatening attacks, released our own players quickly and his positional play and tenacity were second to none. Take him out and we are a lot more ordinary overall. It's like taking out the most important component in an engine. Nothing showed it up more than the MOTD analysis of Amartey showing nowhere near the level of positional intelligence to what Kanté game us last year. We better get used to it.

Let's not give the team and manager so much shit so early on though. Our champions don't deserve that. We become very ungenerous all too quickly on here. It's actually embarrassing and makes me understand why players might not have much loyalty when they are discussing their contracts, seeing how the fans can turn even on Champions so quickly.

Have there been any reports in Simpson and his injury? No point in starting a threaf for it, so thought best to post it here, if not already answered I can't find anything elsewhere. Ta.

He had a serious case of being terrorised, should be fit for burnley.

Seriously don't know, conspiracy theorist out their think he faked it, as he was being terrorised, but would like to think it's just a tweet, and will be back Wednesday, as we are light in that department.
