LESS possession....enabling the team we are playing to come onto us more, thus leaving more space in behind to hit on the counter. I think he said we have a team made for the counter attack. Trying desperately to think of a team that ever made a success out of playing like this................. Hold on, he surely can't be suggesting that England should play like the Premier League Champions! Nah, after all he is no fan of Vardy nor Drinky nor... nor.......
Tielemans63 Posted 9 October 2016 Posted 9 October 2016 It'd help if someone within the England management set up would accept that, though they are good full-backs, neither Danny Rose or Kyle Walker are particularly good crossers of the ball. How many times was the ball worked out wide only for one of those two to put in a nothing cross that was cleared by the first man? Makes me laugh when in the media there is all this debate about why we struggle against packed defences - we struggle because we don't stretch them, we play narrow and then rely on delivery from full backs who aren't particularly good deliverers of the ball. Did we really need 3 across midfield vs a team as weak as Malta? That and the continued accommodation of Wayne Rooney in the team which is borderline comical now.
Phube Posted 9 October 2016 Posted 9 October 2016 There must be a gif of the Malta player nut-megging Rooney by now!
fuchsntf Posted 9 October 2016 Posted 9 October 2016 Alan Woolett, R.Fern Nigel Pearson, Rooney, Hodgson,Junior Lewis, Schlupp etc etc...... Surely the English must now have the copywrite on the Voodoo business by now.. Including the pins.... I wonder which forum can claim they have stuck the most pins therefore they deserve govt. support I wonder which manager or player has been on the receiving end of of the most sudden sticks of pain, that he should be claiming disability benefits......makes ya wonder...dunnit....
ealingfox Posted 9 October 2016 Posted 9 October 2016 Fair play to Wembley for booing Rooney , that is superb.
Fox92 Posted 9 October 2016 Author Posted 9 October 2016 Don't get the need of booing Rooney. He doesn't pick himself. Boo the manager if anyone. Rooney was no worse than any other player at Euro 2016.

I only watched last 20 or so minutes after getting back but I thought Walker's crosses was not too bad though I fully agree with you re Rose. The other problem was that we did not play any strikers who like to attack crosses so we should have pushed higher up the field and have Walker/Rose overlapping closer to the byline so we can play the ball across the goal or have them pull the ball back. There was a good example of this when Rose got called offside around 80 mins mark. Henderson can sit back and cover for full backs, I felt he got forward a lot yesterday to compensate for Rooney's lack of hunger to make things happen.
Corky Posted 9 October 2016 Posted 9 October 2016 Great to see Michael Mifsud back in the country. 8 or so years ago those of us on 606 messageboard were told he was taking Coventry to the Premier League. They managed it without him obviously but felt a bit nostalgic.
foxy boxing Posted 9 October 2016 Posted 9 October 2016 Absolute rubbish, yes we won but if we can't breakdown a team like Malta.yesi know they put ten men behind the ball all the time but still. Pointless in a game like this playing two holding midfielders and Rooney offers the team less and less. We should of had four or five players camped in there half ready to attack
Bryn Posted 9 October 2016 Posted 9 October 2016 I feel sorry for Rooney, being hung out to dry when he's not longer good enough. Mourinho has it spot on giving him a break and taking pressure off him. Chucking him in the team to struggle is a sad end to what must be acknowledged as a superb career. He should have retired.

I'm sure a lot of players would like the captaincy but they don't get to choose for themselves. They don't get a fee playing for England.

ealingfox Posted 9 October 2016 Posted 9 October 2016 They do get paid but are obliged to donate their match fees to charity because they make enough as it is.

Dan Posted 10 October 2016 Posted 10 October 2016 The most disappointing aspect for me is our complete lack of ability to really open the opposition up as a team. The vast majority of goals we score are from defensive errors by the opposition, or individual brilliance. They both count, obviously, but I think the sign of a really good side is one who can open a team up with quality passing moves that stretch their opposition. We hardly ever do that.

I'll remember that one when I'm getting criticized on here for criticizing one of our players.
