Two prisoners escape from Pentonville prison

Real life prison break in this country.

Why do people do it? Has anyone in the twenty first century ever successfully escaped and stayed free in the UK? Genuine question. You're never going to get out of the country in today's climate and if you don't, you'll get caught and end up with more years.

The Pentonville two are 31 and 28, in for attempted murder and the other one burglary. The latter would surely have been out in his thirties but now he's going to have a shit load extra on his sentence. Why bother?

Death row inmate or a lifer in the states serving ACTUAL life? Why not? Nothing to lose.

But someone doing five to fifteen in the UK with years to live? Don't get it.

Am I missing something?

probably be quite fun like, got nothing else to do in prison

Except play pool, watch TV, workout, play sport, do drugs, 3 meals a day. The prison life is ****ing ridiculous.

Prisons are struggling everywhere, it's not the answer as most prisoners still behave like animals/gangsters.

So old-fashioned but want government to think about bringing back death penalty...

Is it true they left mannequins in their beds and just climbed out over the wall? If it was that easy then temptation probably just got the better of them.

I had to choose between reading about this story at lunchtime or the story about Eva Braun's panties selling for 3k at auction. So I'm not up on the details...

The mannequins report was clearly nonsense, I mean where did they come from?

Apparantly they just put pillows in the beds to look like they were there.

That's a shame, mannequins are always a nice touch for your classic prison breakout. You don't see enough of that these days.

Can't imagine it'll take the law long to find a Dean Gaffney lookalike with Linekers ears, and Butthead

Greg Rutherford has let himself go a bit...

Am I missing something but they'd need to re catch them first? They've not caught them yet have they?

I doubt if they were organised enough to breakout of a British prison they'd have no idea what they were going to do once they got out.

Absolutely no chance they'll not get caught.

Hey who knows lol you're asking if it's ever been successful I am just saying this isn't unsuccessful (yet)

You'd imagine they will attempt to get out of the country now

Quite happy to do a citizens arrest as will have a case with a shotgun in it ....     tooled up and ready to go !!

You've been then?

why bother to escape when you are just doing time for burglary because you will be out in no time anyway? prisons now are more like holiday camps instead of punishment. you get everything smuggled in for you and party all the time in your cell with virtually no supervision

If anyone watched that Hunted programme - I know its not exactly the same but 2 people out of 15 managed to avoid capture for 28 days and hypothetically escape the country. That was with a team of experts using probably most if not all the resources they'd be using to catch these 2. Course these 2 would have all the local plod after them and couldn't rely on the kindness of strangers much.

Only way out of the country is by sea really, you'd get nabbed straight away at any airport or Eurostar/tunnel and I doubt any two bob criminal knows someone with a private aircraft.

Considering how easy it is to get into the country, getting out should be a doddle. Do the French search lorries coming from the UK?

A few thoughts on this....

So, firstly some may believe they'll escape and avoid capture. Extremely unlikely but maybe they believe they can get away with it (possibly not for the first time)

Secondly, prison can be a cruel mistress, they may be breaking out for a reason with 'a task' to fulfil that may pay dividend to them or their families in some way. Someone may have something over them so they feel damned if they do and damn......

To break out in the manner they did - they had help.
