Slimani would suit a loan striker more than Vardy. He would be able to hold it up and bring the midfield into play. Vardy would

be to isolated.

So you drop the player who scored a hat-trick at the weekend (and was far more 'at it' last night) for one who hasn't looked like scoring in ages?

I can see what you're trying to achieve but really don't think it's a solution. Slimani was shocking last night.

2 teams (Stoke and us) who don't like to keep the ball so what's going to happen?

Advantages are: we have had 24 hours extra to "recover" not that it bothered us last season.

Another advantage is Anoutivic is suspended and possibly Schmiechel and maybe DD are back but both will not be fully match fit.

Disadvantages:

A not fully fit DD will possibly compound his fitness long term and he maybe not 100% committed. I fear Ranieri has no choice though and doesn't yet have confidence in Mendy.

Possibly give Ulloa a chance from start despite appearing out of favour at moment.

No one is crying out for a place in the side - that is Ranieri's problem - diminishing returns.

You'd play Slimani over Vardy based on recent performances?

Bizarre!

Don't think Stoke will be as bad as Man City's defence though. I think the hattrick is making you forget  3 months of no shots on target.

Slim may have had a bad game yesterday but least we might stop the useless hit and hope to Vardy.

If we are concentrate we might keep them out until after half time.

If we lose the game we will be staring constantly at the bottom 8 for the remainder of the season - there is a gap appearing from 13th down in comparison with the rest of the table and I don't think it'll close up.  We'll be 7 behind Stoke and looking like one of the also-rans until the end of May.

Hopefully a full strength team-

Schmeichel

Simpson

Huth

Morgan

Fuchs

Mahrez

Drinkwater

Mendy

Albrighton

Okazaki

Vardy

Back to basics, give them everything we've got. Not going to suggest a different formation as I'd be wasting my time, but at least we'll know definitively in the next few weeks the way things are going to go- if we continue to play poorly with our best team out then something will need to change. Either the formation, or manager if he can't implement the first option.

It what need's to be done. It is in my opinion the single most important tactic to the way we play. It sets the tone. Let's the opposition know they won't have a moment's peace and naturally makes them hurry more and make mistakes.

When we sit off we're very static. With being so narrow it becomes a problem without the pressing. We let them pick out whatever pass they want.

People can sit there and say we miss Kante all they want and of course we do. But it's highlighted because we've tried to fix something that wasn't broken even though he'd left. It might not be AS effective but we still would be if we just pressed.

This.

We have been playing (generally), slow football with no pressing. Thats entirely different to what was successful last season. I've been banging on about this since the season started.

In attempting to play a 'plan B' when defences drop deep to negate the counter attack / pace we have, we have changed the other fundamentals that worked - which is absolute madness.

The baby has well and truly been thrown out with the bath water.

High pressing and high energy were as important as any other aspect of last season's play, and if the opposition are now dropping deeper,  that should be better for us as we can win the ball back nearer their goal ffs.

Totally agree. For me this is more important than formation. We nee greater energy in the middle of the park in particular. I hope now we have more options in centre midfield we can rotate a little more so that whoever is playing has the legs to press press press

Bizarre!

We paid 30 million for slimani it's up to us to play a system that suits him,the current one does not. He's a lone striker and away from home especially at the moment we should be using him in that role.

I like the post from Ted Maul above.

We'll get no formation change, so the best we can do is put the strongest and most eligible players into Ranieri's '4-4-2' +3 Years Puzzle.

I think its this,

Schmeichel (hopefully)

Simpson

Morgan

Huth

Fuchs

Mahrez

King (I'd start him over Mendy purely on momentum and experience, but I know its the most controversial selection)

Drinkwater (hopefully)

Albrighton (Last chance salon for me, sub for Gray after 10 minutes if needed)

Okazaki (switch immediately for Slimani if he's not on his game)

Vardy

Lose this and a revolution has to start, Ranieri will have to take control of the players who are 'allegedly' insisting on 4-4-2 and tell them some honest truths.

I couldn't care less what his hair looks like :P

stoke like all the teams now will be expecting the quick counter and the long balls over the top for Vardy to chase.so we need to be a bit more inventive than that and try to keep possession more and Mahrez needs to show more of what he can do. we need to keep the pace and tempo high and be defensively more solid than we have been

Nah, lets just keep hoofing it to Vardy. Will all pay off sooner rather than later.

I work with a Stoke fan. He isn't too confident for Saturday. So i have reassured him that if we stick with 4-4-2 and continue to play hoof ball to Vardy over the top they will win comfortably. Their defense will have a field day

Can anyone tell me which pubs are away friendly?

Ive never been stoke away only the vale.

Hopefully il bring the luck with me as it's my first away this season.

not seen us lose away for years.

Last two seasons I've been in a pub just up from the ground. Think it's a cricket club if you look on maps. Always a nice mix of home and away in there.

Harvester is opposite too but I don't know if away are allowed in.

You're better off asking in the travel sub section though

Hopefully they will realise that the way to play is like it was against Man City and they shouldn't have changed it for Bournemouth.

Im a little bit optimistic but at the same time I don't really know why.

One or both of two key things need to happen, if we are to get anything from Saturday:

- start quickly, and score first

- play with all three of Mendy, King and Amartey.

Just hope Ranieri and Shakey see the same glaring obvious things (I don't hold out much hope on the latter point!)
