Harvey Barnes

Whenever I’ve seen him he looks to have real promise. Unlike most young inexperienced players he doesn’t seem lightweight. He’s very physical and has a good first touch. The problem Puel has is that unfortunately in the Premier League you don’t get the time you need to bed youngsters in really. There’s too much pressure for instant success.

True - but some young players step up in the EPL without being farmed out  season after season.  Let's face it, several of our big money signings from Overseas need farming out to Barnsley and MK Dons.  Would rather see this and keep Barnes here.

I agree. I’d rather see Barnes start a game than Musa or Slimani for example. So many players here that we need to get rid of .

He must be very highly thought of to get a club like West Brom, hopefully he excels.

He really needs a good season under his belt at Championship level before coming back and attempting to force his way into our matchday squad.

The Birmingham Mail understands that West Bromwich Albion are closing in on the loan signing of Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes. Paul Suart, their senior sports writer, claims that there ‘might be something’ in these rumours, which has escalated more as the afternoon has progressed.
Barnes was not involved at the weekend in Leicester’s most recent pre-season friendly versus Sky Bet League Two side Notts County at Meadow Lane. Perhaps even more telling in a world of social media is that Barnes is now following the official West Bromwich Albion account on Twitter.

The 20-year-old attacker developed more experience of first team football in the first half of last season when on loan at Barnsley. He impressed during that stint, scoring five Championship goals in the process. Darren Moore believes he has what it takes to challenge for a spot in the WBA team ahead of their season opener next weekend.

Barnes’ reputation has continued to grow, even more so following his exploits with the England Under-20 side last year. He played a huge role in helping them win the prestigious Toulon Tournament, a competition where he claimed the Golden Boot award.

Many Foxes fans feel as though manager Claude Puel should have handed him more of an opportunity at the King Power Stadium. He did make five appearances, mostly towards the end of the previous campaign, two of which came in the FA Cup. However, they clearly hold some hope for him, given they are only willing to loan him, and not outright sell the youngster.

Your assessment of his time at MK Don's and Barnsley is very harsh. The general consensus from both teams is he was absolutely mustard for them and both were desperate to have him back.

I think a full year at a Championship club would be ideal and we should keep Kapustka instead for a few sub appearances.

The Barnsley lads seemed to think he drifted out of games a lot, wasn't involved a huge amount but would pop up with something.

I think his knack for important goals and assists means he'll always get raved about at times, probably over the top. It does seem that's why he might not be ready for us yet, he's not imposing himself consistently in games but that's one of the hardest things to do as a kid. A full season at a half decent club will him and hopefully us the world of good. Seems likes he's got the Tom Lawrence and James Maddison repertoire of goals, and plus it's nice to have an interest in other leagues with our loan players.

May sound obvious, but he's actually shown a considerable amount of progression as a player in the last two years; and this should be a good move to continue that.

Perfect place for his next stage of development, should be surrounded by better players than at Barnsley (sorry Barnsley), if he performs at a high end championship level then he'll get minutes here. He only had a couple of chances and it's a shame he didn't show up as he might have got more pitch time last season if he had... but this is what he needs.

I think he could have seen some game time this season but with Maddison and Iheanacho likely in the way in his preferred position, he probably wouldn't get a sniff bar injuries (which was obviously the case with Hamza)

Absolute doggo vs Fleetwood didn't help. He was inches away from scoring a last minute winner vs Southampton that would have helped him. This is a good move all round.

Good move. They should be up near the business end of the table as they already seemed settled with Moore as manager. A full season hopefully in the first team and contributing to a successful campaign for be great for him.

Will be interesting to see what becomes of our Harvey - will he become a first team fixture for years or not? Of our "home-grown" youngsters, the two I think will do are Chilwell and Choudhury.
