jim5000 Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 If it was a Stoke player sliding in like this on Drinkwater, the thread wouldn't exist. He throws himself forward, both feet, from several feet away from the ball while an opposition player is running in. It's a potential leg breaker.
TAFKA Castroneves Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 https://www.theguardian.com/football/2005/dec/11/sport.comment2 interesting article from 2005 i just discovered, worth a read - and under "UK data protection law" a lot of excluded results for google searches of FA members names, not saying anything of course, just worth a read
Dan Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 I don't entirely agree for what it's worth that the Vardy red card was anything to do with corruption. I can half see why he gave it at the time but it's unbelievable that there's an appeals process that acts on what the referee should've seen rather than what actually happened. I just think the entire thing is geared in such a way that means it cannot be ruled out.

stu Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 The most laughable thing that seems to have been missed by the media is the fact that the FA have transfered the Yellow Card issued by Pawson to Erik Pieters to Bruno Martins Indi with the reason given as 'Mistaken Identity'...

Yeah the fa should order the ref takes an eye test.
MC Prussian Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 Oh, well. I had little hope it'd get overturned in the first place. It'd have probably set a precedent and put the referees under even more scrutiny and pressure. Vardy's movement tracking back (as a striker in his own half) and Pawson view of it wasn't the best, so I'd leave it at that. Shame, really. We had the benefit of the video replay, the referee doesn't. Still wonder whether a "flag"-like system similar to the one in place in American Football would help solve the problem with critical decisions. Now I'd like to see the team show a decent reaction and show what they're really made of, even without the topscorer on board.
bpfox Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 either we have the worst legal people or the f.a have it in for us. I could have got vardy off that charge, it was very straight forward, so one has to say the f.a wanted to protect the ref and hammer us.

And the conspiracy theories and talk of corruption are embarrassing. If that was a Stoke player we would laugh at them for even trying to appeal the red card and there'd be a unanimous agreement on here that it was a definite red. If Diouf was a bit closer that tackle would have been a season ender. He was lucky he was further away. The other thing is Vardy has hardly pulled up any trees this season so we will be perfectly fine without him for 3 games. The hysteria is way OTT.

That was someone who is working within the sport admitting that he wants the biggest clubs in there because of the revenue they generate. The entire set-up is completely ripe for corruption. It really pisses me off when people laugh off the possibility. I completely agree, and we've seen that it exists. It's in every sport where there is betting allowed. Far too much money in the game for there to be no corruption at all highest levels, there have even been a few occasions in the "sacred" game of cricket. Sep Blatter and the Freezing of Between 50m and 100m Swiss francs in the banks comes to mind for football....These poor/planned refereeing decisions could lead to a club getting relegated.

In any case if you'd bothered to read my post properly which you clearly haven't I said it's a foul by definition, nothing about it being a red card, as it stated, to say it's not even a free kick makes us look rather silly. Last time I checked I'm pretty sure Rojo wasn't just blown up for his tackle but was indeed issued a Yellow Card for it.

Ha is that right. I thought he'd given the first foul against Pieters....... He should be relegated to League One for a month just for that, I aint being funny but how the blue fck do you mix those two up.
Freesolo Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 I don't know why people are so shocked that his red card was not rescinded. Ask yourself if someone gave you one million pound to bet on the outcome of his appeal which side would you take? Im laying my money on Vardy keeping his 3 match ban and its not even close.
foxy boxing Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 A disgraceful decision by the panel, anyone could see it was purely accidental. A three match ban for that yet they let off other serious fouls!. they clearly want to be seen not favouring us but now have gone too far the other way and going out of their way to punish us. even the experts have said it should not have been a sending off.
ian_marshall Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 The outcome of the appeal process does not surprise me as there was no way the FA would overturn the decision. Sadly what infuriates me the most about all of this is the length of ban. The FA in my view set a precedent the other week when they handed Aguero only a 4 match ban for one of the worst challenges that I've ever witnessed at both professional and amateur levels. His challenge was full of intent, highly dangerous, and completly unnecessary yet on review the FA only deemed it worthy of a ban of 1x additional game above the standard 3 match ban when no one would have complained had he been handed a 6 month ban. To then apply a ban on Vardy which is only marginally short of Aguero's implies that the fouls were comparable which clearly they weren't. Personally, I didn't see any intent in Vardy's challenge of attempting to hurt the opposition player. The rules need to be clarified and also simplified to ensure that everyone is clear on what is and isn't a foul and the respective punishments. What concerns me the most from recent weeks is that we've seen 5 challenges which share similarities in style, yet 3 have resulted in yellow cards, 2 red, with the worst resulting in a 4 game ban. Where's the deterrent to prevent a serious injury or see a repeat of the Roy Keane scenario where a challenge has a hidden personal agenda. If you're an aggressive player you'd be thinking to yourself firstly the odds suggest you're most likely to pick up a yellow card for a dangerous challenge and worst case scenario if you were to get sent off you'd only face a 4 game ban maximum as your club's legal team would likely point to the outcome of Aguero's challenge as a reference point for determining the level of punishment. In my view, if the FA don't sort this mess out soon it's only going to be a matter of time before we see a player getting seriously injured.
Wortho Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 How many games did Vardy get banned for last season? It was against West Ham.
