Very underrated by our fans, he was outstanding during the great escape and is now getting very good reviews from Barnsley fans. Sure he'll be a key figure next season.

Matty...is that you?

Not much point in getting him back soon.

We're under pressure to get results and if he ever came back and played rusty, fans would write him off again and won't give him time to return to his best again.

Hence going to Barnsley, who are over-achieving in some ways, was a great idea for his continued development.

Except, as we've heard, he hasn't been rusty. Sure, he's been playing in the Championship but it's not clear that he wouldn't be able to contribute if he came back now.

If he hadn't gotten injured would it have been a partnership of James - Kante in 15/16 I wonder.

I don't think so. James had never showed quite the same playmaking ability Drinkwater had.

Can we not just get him back in the squad now? I wondered if it might be a loss for us when we loaned him out

Saw an interview of him last week. All his comments spot on about the importance of teamwork, effort and togetherness. He always was a down-to-earth and humble character, just the type to have in our dressing room at the mo. I wonder if his fitness and match sharpness are getting back towards the level required by us. If so, it would be good to have him back to challenge our other midfielders and to add some grit, spirit, pride and desire to the squad.

Not a bad midfield for the championship next season.

I'd like:

----------------Kasper-----------------

New RB--Amartey--New CB--Chilwell

----------James--N'didi---------

Gray--------Kaputska-------Lawrence

--------------New Striker-----------

Sell Vardy, Slimani, Drinkwater, Mahrez and and bench the oldies who we can't get rid of

Love these comments not saying anyone making them have said different. But early this season people on here claiming he was not good enough for our level now. Because he missed last season.

But none had seen him in a title winning side. But gave him no credit for being one of the best in the great escape when Drinky was shite.

Good luck Matty rip it up stay fit. Then come home and fvck up the nay sayers. I for one think a fit matty this season we would be stronger.

Don't rate him, I've never really got what he offers tbh.

Commitment, enthusiasm, team ethic, for a start. We're sadly lacking in those things at the moment.

No way Kasper will play in the Championship!

Absolutely. He's one of the best keepers in the Prem. One of the issues with the owners sticking with Ranieri and the player discontent is that come what may at the end of the season, stay up or go down, all of our best players will leave. Mahrez, Ndidi, Kasper, Vardy (hopefully), Drinkwater, Slimani, Okazaki, Gray will all be gone.

No one will want Drinkwater if he carries on playing like this either- get him on form in the Championship and he's the best midfielder in the league.

No, it wouldn't have.

Why not @Langston? He was keeping Drinkwater out of the team before he got injured. Or have you forgotten that? Before the injury, i always rated James higher than Drinkwater.

Surprised people write him off so much in that sense, if you actually compare their last championship season and the first premier league season James was far more creative.

I guess people get drawn in with DD's hollywood passes rather than actually what comes from them.

Hopefully he'll fit straight back in, can't see Drinkwater playing championship football again he'd get in a lot of premiership teams. Be pleased if James was to nail a place down again.

From a Barnsley fan:

Wow.

Yiadom looked every bit the international player he's become like night. I cant find the words to describe how good he was. He was good down the left but down his natural side he's something else.

Matty James is definitely a Premier League player. Oozes class. I'd say he's still playing at only 80% fitness as well. Every week he looks better and different sides of his game are creeping in. He didn't waste a ball last night and some of the tight spaces he dug himself out of were incredible.

If we can keep in touch with the playoff pack until Matty has reached full fitness I really think we have a chance. This lad was a starting centre mid in a team that won the Championship and it's obvious to see why.
