Dan Posted 11 March 2017 Posted 11 March 2017 Oh no, how will we possibly cope without people who care shit for us. I did enjoy the Celtic friendly to be honest but I've got no real interest in stuff like this. It's like begging for support. That Stillitano is a complete arsehole and the number of people of his ilk working within football will eventually kill the sport.
Corky Posted 11 March 2017 Posted 11 March 2017 This was always going to be a one-off anyway, wasn't it?
AyewJoking Posted 11 March 2017 Posted 11 March 2017 why are we thrown out? pretty obvious a lowly finish (at best) in the league and we arent a big name anyway so how would we merit being in ICC?
melrose Posted 11 March 2017 Posted 11 March 2017 Can't say I blame them for not including us to be honest We are a bit like one of those X factor winners, flavour of the month for a while and then dropped and they get back to the established acts with all the talent. It was all very pedictable

These players are finely tuned athletes who travel first class with no expense spared. Most of them are also internationals who are used to long haul flights then returning days later for big games. And are we really saying that playing in the ICC meant we did no pre season training at all? We fvcked up away at Hull and then it all went downhill after that. Were the players really that unfit, or did the Claudio factor kick in much earlier that we all thought? I dunno, just putting it out there... 1 hour ago, Koke said: Man City did the ICC and their fitness levels was normal. They started the season on fire. 1 hour ago, Finnegan said: Yeah but this sort of corporate obligation was completely new to us and we clearly didn't prepare well. I don't think the amount of travelling involved is ever the optimal approach to pre season but I don't doubt it can be done well. But our approach was definitely poor and our commitments to the ICC clearly didn't help. I think this is a pretty fair summation of the situation. We cannot blame our woes on this tournament and I think many people are putting significantly more blame onto this than they should, particularly given the attitudes towards it when it was announced. Having said that, I don't doubt that it was somewhat disruptive for a club of our size to play almost every pre-season game in a different country. If we were Man City and we were used to it and we had everything planned perfectly it probably would have helped but lets not kid ourselves. We've been on a downward spiral for months and the reasons for it are clearly multiple. Anyone putting significant blame on this tournament and suggesting it was a big part of our downfall is just pushing the blame on somewhere else.
FoyleFox Posted 12 March 2017 Posted 12 March 2017 Excellent news. Something new and exciting last year but it knackered our preseason.

Man City played one game in the tournament in China. Chelsea played all their games in the states, Spurs all their games one australia and Liverpool played 2 games in the states and then a game at Wembley. We played one game on Scotland, flew to America for one game and then flew to Sweden for another game within the space of a few days. Unlike other clubs we couldn't set up a base and have a training camp with a few games included.
Grewks Posted 12 March 2017 Posted 12 March 2017 Obviously Shakerpeare has told the owners that if he's to take over, this needs to be put in the bin right away..... The tournament creators are just trying to save face

Also, we had probably the smallest squad in the tournament. We were playing Barcelona's youth squad in the second half. Even without the ICC, I don't understand the size of the first team squad at the beginning of the season...no cover at all at CB or RB, when playing in the CL. There was a lot about last summer that was odd. Was just about to say this. Most of other clubs were stuck to one country, based there for two weeks. We decided to agree playing three games in three different timezones. To make it worse, we went back and forth between timezones. If we had played in one timezone and then played in another, that would have helped too. The club at the top have made so many naive mistakes this season.

CosbehFox Posted 12 March 2017 Posted 12 March 2017 On aside, a single friendly in somewhere like Stockholm or against the likes of Celtic is nice to have in the calendar.
Aus Fox Posted 12 March 2017 Posted 12 March 2017 Imagine winning the Champions League and then begging us to come back in. Hey Craig, can you get the lads up to Michigan we've sold 100,000 tickets for your game with Real Madrid. Sorry buddy, we are away at Stockport that day, can't change our plans now. Ok what about the following week, AC Milan in China? Nah Sorry Port Vale away that day. Ok the following week, a Champions League Final rematch against Byern at the MCG? Let me look at the calendar, I think we can squeeze that in, oh wait, what's that Mike? Grimsby? No way we're missing the fishing trip on the Sunday. Sorry no can do, preseason is booked out for us lad, maybe see what Everton are up to?
FrankieADZ Posted 12 March 2017 Posted 12 March 2017 how will we cope not being in a shoddy pre-season tournament no one cares about..... im sure the money men at the club will probably be crying mind
st albans fox Posted 12 March 2017 Posted 12 March 2017 I think the players enjoyed it. Some would have preferred to be elsewhere for personal reasons.
gerrytaggart Posted 12 March 2017 Posted 12 March 2017 Spurs in a cup of 'champions' discredits the whole thing somewhat.
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 12 March 2017 Posted 12 March 2017 A stupid tournament where fat American execs get to charge the normal joe public a ticket price on par with the champions league final for a game neither team takes seriously. give me Lincoln away for a proper pre season game any day of the week!
Stadt Posted 12 March 2017 Posted 12 March 2017 We were sell outs anyway, that Stillitano cúnt insulted us and we played on that tournament for a wad of cash, it's easy to say in hindsight but the tournament ruined our preseason. We were unfit and demoralised because we were thrashed by Barca and PSG.
ithuriel Posted 12 March 2017 Posted 12 March 2017 So not invited this time around equals thrown out, cool.
