Fox 4 Life Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Great article on why we are being shafted with our fixture list around the champions league. If we hadn't got that win on Tuesday we wouldn't have the luxury of resting players on Sunday (technically we arent safe so could do with something here). I would be tempted to play a C team on Sunday as a **** you to the league. Leicester City are getting a rough deal from the Premier League and TV companies in their bid to prolong their Champions League adventure, writes Mark Clayton in an opinion piece. Sunday's clash with Everton kicks off at 4pm in Liverpool due to the demands of television, with the game live on Sky TV. Atletico Madrid play a full 24 hours earlier against their big city rivals Real Madrid in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium at 3.15pm on Saturday. No-one at the King Power Stadium will complain and even if they did - there is no point. It won't change anything with the power the TV companies now hold. But European leagues, particularly Spain's La Liga, go out of their way to give every assistance to their teams in the Champions League. The Premier League don't. This means Atletico will get an extra 24 hours recovery and preparation time before the first-leg clash at the Vicente Calderon Stadium next Wednesday. Atletico also have no travelling with only a trip across the city for the Real game on Saturday and a home first-leg on the Wednesday. City have a trip to Liverpool on the Sunday, a recovery day, then travel to Madrid on the Tuesday for the game on the Wednesday. There is no reason whatsoever for City's game with Everton to be the final TV game of the weekend (we're discounting the Monday night fixture between Crystal Palace and Arsenal). In fact, it is difficult to see why Sky want the Everton v City fixture on the TV at all. But if TV do want the game televised, why not 12.30pm on Saturday instead of Tottenham v Watford with neither team having a midweek fixture? Or what about the 5.30pm kick-off on Saturday instead of the Bournemouth v Chelsea fixture? Even 1.30pm on Sunday, instead of Sunderland v Manchester United, would be slightly better. To make it the final weekend game is simply unfair and ludicrous. City are the only one of the eight teams left in the Champions League to be playing on the Sunday. Although Juventus and Barcelona are playing on Saturday night and then on Tuesday in the Champions League, they place each other in Turin. Champions League quarter-finals (with weekend domestic fixtures this weekend in brackets) are: Tuesday, 7.45pm Dortmund (Saturday, 5.30pm, at Bayern Munich) v Monaco (Saturday, 4pm, at Angers). Juventus (Saturday, 7.45pm, at home) v Barcelona (Saturday, 7.45pm, at Malaga) Wednesday, 7.45pm Atletico Madrid (Saturday, 3.15pm, at Real) v Leicester City (Sunday, 4pm, at Everton) Bayern Munich (Saturday, 5.30pm, at home) v Real Madrid (Saturday, 3.15pm, at home)
stripeyfox Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Yawn! Leicester, like all the other clubs in the PL are quite happy to pocket millions from Sky in order that Sky can show games on TV, so they can't exactly complain when Sky want to show them on TV.

Agreed but why not move it to Saturday if it has to be shown? It's a nothing game anyway!
Stinkenzo Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Might be an easy excuse but why such a nothing game for both clubs is on TV in the first place, especially Sunday 4pm instead of Saturday
desertfox2 Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Whilst I do agree the premier league could be a bit more helpful to teams playing in Europe. We can rest a lot of players against everton. They have to play a local derby against one of the best sides in the world in a must win game. I'd take ours over theirs.
filbertway Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Every team playing on Tuesday is being shafted as well then? Absolutely no issue for me. You know what to expect when you're in Europe. If you don't then do some research. If we were pencilled in for Monday night and the league refused to reschedule, then it'd be a fair complaint. 3 days between fixtures is fine though.
Bayfox Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Sold our soul to $ky a long time ago in this country. But i've long been an advocate of the premier league allowing any club in europe as much time as poss. So in this case we should be sat lunch this weekend and have a 3pm as we have the following sat. Should be same for anyone not just us. Lets be honest without us this year the coefficient has gone tits up

Vacamion Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Playing in the league on Sunday then in the Champions League 1/4 final on Wednesday? Spurs, Man City and Arsenal would probably swap places with us.
Foxxed Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Who does decide to change fixtures? Just Sky? Can the FA? Can the Prem? Didn't the FA, Sky or whoever move the Arsenal match for us? Anyone know why?
Koke Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Mourinho mentioned this few weeks ago and was criticised for it. But he is right. The FA and Premier League don't help English clubs in Europe. Not just us but also Manchester United. I understand TV companies pay a fortune to broadcast games but it's not helpful. Ideally we'd play Everton on Saturday 12.30 KO.
Finnegan Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Atletico "only" have a trip to play Real Madrid. Only have to focus on playing their closest rivals who also happen to be about the best team in the world. For a top of the table clash. Only. Meanwhile we've got to contend with the devastating, grueling hell mission of a two hour flight in first class after playing a dead rubber against another midtable also ran. We're so unfortunate.
Livid Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Remind me but I think there's another minor event taking place in the Liverpool area on Saturday which may stretch police resources somewhat should we be playing the same day.

Nobody could foresee we'd win 5 in a row and be mid table. It's a nothing game now but it wasn't 4 weeks ago.
Fox92 Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 The Premier League and Sky are all about money. They don't care about anything else apart from money, branding and making people believe it is "the best league in the World" (and what a load of shite that is). Other countries don't have as much money, they work around clubs. The state of football in this country is shocking.

Don't get this arguement one bit. Is aintree really that bad I go Cheltenham for the festival and yet the visable police presence seems very low in comparison to anything like a football match. I'm sure they can cope. Plus i think we all know that actually isnt the reason. Its just $ky. Unless i missed a police request to move the fixture 1st
Clever Fox Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 It should be in the Rules between the the Prem and Sky that Teams competing in Europe should have a full three days off to prepare for European games. There's plenty of other good Games that could have been substituted this weekend.
st albans fox Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Sky accepted that they may have two swap the Spurs game from sat to sun if we had been scheduled to play Tuesday so they were prepared to move it if UEFA had put us on the Tuesday - I expect it's all about precedence.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 They're professional athletes, they're trained for this s***
Struwwelpeter60 Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Sky is bankrolling the whole PL show. Therefore they have the right to call the shots. It's as simple as that. Last season, LCFC got almost 100m from those "money-grubbing bastards". How terrible!! We sold our soul!! Right?
Blue ROI Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Course I would rather have had a Saturday game but this is what the likes of Barcelona's, the Madrids and Bayern Munichs have to deal with most years. Before Seville away i couldn't have imagined we would be in the quarters. There's another thing to consider in all of this. The teams around us will have all played before us and we might be closer to safety by Sunday afternoon before we play. We would have been happy to accept this in our days in the championship.
yorkie1999 Posted 6 April 2017 Posted 6 April 2017 Times of our lives, the players must know that the extra bit of effort will reap rewards and make them heroes, they can rest when it's over
