breadandcheese Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 It'll be interesting to see how Shakespeare sets the team up next week seeing as we need to score at least two on the night. 4-4-2 left us too exposed, so I wonder if he'll keep the second half formation with Gray instead of King or maybe 3-4-3 as others have suggested.
marbleman Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 not easy playing against twelve but we can do this at king power.
Guest ttfn Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 People saying "Atletico would have taken 1-0" are right to the extent that it represents a good result for them in the ordinary course of business and sets them up well to play on the counter in the second leg. But the reality is that the conditions the game were played under last night gave them a really good chance to put the tie to bed. It was a hot evening - between 25 and 30 at pitch side throughout the game and the referee was generous to say the least. I dare say if we can find ourselves with a referee equally as kind to the home side next week we'll have a really good chance of progressing.

You need to stand up and fight (alleged) corruption, not just shy away from it. What are you proposing you will to combat this corruption then?

Carl the Llama Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Haha wow just looked at the comments at the bottom of the BBC's match review. Avoid if you're easily enraged by smug glory fans who can't see that even in our 1-0 defeat we've shown way more grit than any other English club in Europe.
NotTheMarketLeader Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Just now, HighPeakFox said: You have to prove the corruption first. Of course you do. Which, as I have no power or money to lead an investigation against these organisations makes it a little difficult for me to 'stand up and fight' corruption as Hammo suggests I should!
HighPeakFox Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 For now, let's make a positive hostile racket on Tuesday.
Foxboro Hot Tub Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Corruption ffs the ref gave a debateable penalty, watched back on replay alright it was wrong but corruption? do me a favour. As if anyone at UEFA is on a mission to stop little old Leicester. We must get rid of Leicester at all costs!!!!
yorkie1999 Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 We were robbed by a ridiculous penalty, if it had been Man U or Chelsea, they'd be calling for video refs this morning. It all started with the eurovision song contest, we were good at that once, until the sneaky europeans started giving us nil pois.
dylanlegend Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 10 hours ago, danfox76 said: what difference does it make if its Athletico or Rotherham? it dosen't stop you pressing and closing down the opponent ... we should have pressed them when they had the ball like we did to Liverpool a few games ago... instead we let them do it to us, we gave them way to much time on the ball and they gave us none.. i think it is you that doesn't understand football... although i will admit when we did press them they did get very lucky with the second balls and rebounds finding their men. We will press them in the home leg, the difference is these are technically exceptional players and when you press Athletico it opens up a lot of space for them to counter. Also, the heat could have been a factor, gutted Huth is out though for the 2nd leg
Fox92 Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Albrighton's rash decision cost us on the face of it. He's got their main goal threat outside the area at a ridiculous angle, just hold him there or see the ball out. Instead he just chucks himself into him.
Guest Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Mahrez had no fire in his belly The team came out scared and bumbled the ball for the first 30 minutes Drinkwater seemed to run out of ideas Vardy was alone most of the time and marked by 2 defenders I'd say we had a decent result, Benny, Albrighton, Ndidi and huth were on fire.

You can also blame Simpson for letting him go on that run, if you're really looking for one of our players to blame.

Surely someone coukd point out to them the damage of the sameold faces winning year after year can do... look at the fall of interest in f1. When we win the cl it will show that any club can aspire to win it.

Hammo Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 53 minutes ago, NotTheMarketLeader said: What are you proposing you will to combat this corruption then? Well, forums like this one that raise the issue and trigger debate are a good enough place to start. Rome, after all, wasn't built in a day. But just grumbling, backing off and chucking in the towel doesn't help anyone. It is the strategy of the uncommitted, or, worse still, the coward. Let's stand strong, fight back, make a mighty noise and get Atletico moaning about the ref next week.

M0901 Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Got to cut Drinkwater some slack. The man is always there, always playing, always trying to be the linchpin (is that spelled right?) of our midfield and he coped well against top quality opposition. As for Benny, Mr Right Place Right Time. I can't remember the last time I've seen a defensive performance from someone who literally saved our asses with countless blocks and interceptions like he did. Massive massive credit to him. Brilliant.
foxy boxing Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Really bad referee decision for the penalty, clearly outside the box. When is video replays about key decisions going to come into the game. as usual the people on the goal line did nothing to tell the referee it wasn't a penalty!. Atletico had all the possession as you would expect and all the shots but we stood firm and defended resolutely.it's a shame that we were always under the cosh and never had a decent effort at there goal.
Sammy Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 Excellent result overall, keeps Tuesday alive and I'm now buzzing for it!! Question though - why is that 5th official not on the opposite side to the linesman? I know the referee is supposed to cover that side but whats the point having 2 officials so close to each other? Feel if we had a stationary ref close to that decision the right call is made
Ricey Posted 13 April 2017 Posted 13 April 2017 I don't feel as angry about the penalty as I should. Maybe because I feel they would have pushed more for a goal had it not happened. You could see that they didn't want to make the same mistake as Sevilla in the first leg by dominating but allowing one counter and conceding, what proved to be, a fatal goal. 1-0 going into the home leg is a weird position. It's a narrow lead but if they score, which I think they will, it means we have to score three goals past arguably the best defensive unit in the world. I've no idea how Shakespeare will play it. High intensity and pressing to try and unsettle them like Sevilla or play it like we did in the second half and hope we can counter with more effectiveness? With Sevilla the game plan was obvious. Tuesday night is a dilemma.

Surely the goal line officials should be on the opposite side to the linos.
