Max Power Posted 6 July 2017 Posted 6 July 2017 Percy said we are still interested but Everton are front of the queue. I maintain that if they sign Rooney there's no way they go for Sigurdsson.

We blew all our capital last season with the disastrous summer (and 3/4qtrs of a season away from the CL), we're now just another West Brom, Stoke, Swansea who would class 14th to 8th as a good season, while being privately happy with 17th+ IMO he should be target No1, he's proven in the Prem & Mahrez's likely departure makes his signing a MUST Personally I'd prefer to Mahrez to the middle AND sign Cigarson, but there we go I understand your frustration. But I would argue we haven't blown all our capital. LC missed an enormous opportunity to add quality, Prem-proven talent last season, I agree. They should've paid for Sig and Keane, for instance. That is undoubtedly an opportunity lost. But we aren't back to being a Stoke or a West Brom. We have stacked back-to-back seasons containing incredible accomplishments. That puts us in the best position in the club's entire history. Yes, pundits expect us to fall back to the pack, like we did in the Prem last season. But what if we don't? Right now, we are adding/looking to add great young talent, this is one of the most active transfer windows we have ever had, we are looking to spend and improve far more than the West Hams or the Stokes. We will have a talented, improved team come the start of the season by the look of things. While the top teams prioritize Europe, we can just focus on the Prem. If we can stack a third consecutive successful season -- this time with a number of new players, and without Mahrez as well as Kante -- LCFC grows into something different than it is right now. The club moves beyond being a fluke, and the windbags on the telly start to lose a bit of that condescension when discussing our lads. What would a 3rd consecutive successful season look like? I think a serious press for Europe. Being one of the teams in the mix the whole year. Ideally getting Europe, but just being in the running the majority of the season with a mix of old and new players will suggest LCFC will not be going back to what it was in the past. It suggests permanence in the Prem, that ownership is building something beyond what the Swanseas of the world are capable of, and it suggests to recruits we are a place to play at if you want a shot at competing for the Prem and Europe. We don't have that reputation right now, but it is tantalizingly close. Plus, as we add players, we become more desirable to the better players in the world as an option if they have no hope for Europe. So let's make the bid for Gylfi, meet Swansea's demands, and if turned down, ok, let's keep adding talent and checking in with Gylfi's agent. If someone else comes along, great, we can add them and stop the pursuit. But as we add players, let's not forget that with every addition or subtraction, the precise players who are prepare to join LCFC changes. If we add the right players, Gylfi may reconsider LCFC, especially with Everton adding Rooney and Klaasen and Tottenham's midfield being absolutely loaded. If we can add Gibson and Iheanacho to Maguire and Iborra, we show commitment to be a team planning to get back to Europe.

AmarteyAndChill Posted 6 July 2017 Posted 6 July 2017 Looks like Fernando Llorente is joining Chelsea, can see gyfli jumping ship if this happens. Everton have Klassan, Barkley and Rooney who play in his position. If we have signed some quality and give him a reason to join us I can see this happening.

DannyN83 Posted 6 July 2017 Posted 6 July 2017 This is the one which will drag on till the last week of the window me thinks.
AKCJ Posted 6 July 2017 Posted 6 July 2017 If we were to lose only Mahrez and get Iborra, Maguire, Iheanacho, Sigurdsson and maybe a winger then this will have been the best transfer window of our history.

Good with his feet and in the air & with his back to goal. Even if it's an option off the bench for Chelsea. I know they wanted him in January.

Think your probably right, but if we got Inheanacho and Boudebouz early doors, I wouldn't be overly concerned how long it took or if it ever happened. Could probably get both of these for the same money or less. Great business.

I, for one, wouldn't be paying to watch it. ...and that my friend, is my point. I don't think Shakey wants to play hoofball and some of the moves he is making imply he likes ball players. I just worry that some in here have been so spoiled by Riyad, that they've forgotten what it was like to watch "British" football.

Ian Nacho Posted 6 July 2017 Posted 6 July 2017 As much as I would love to see him down the KP I just can't see a £40m rated playing moving to a club which isn't in any sort of European competition without being on astronomical wages and seeing that Deeney's wages are an issue, I would have though that would have created a precedent.

Crazy money.

Funnily enough, the bigger the fee, the less there is left for wages. lacazette reputedly on 80k/week though no idea what the s/o fee was. Unless gylfi is going to one of the big six, he won't get a huge package if swansea demand a 40m fee. Going to be his choice whether he wants to leave strongly enough for whoever meets their fee.

All based on the personality of the person and how greedy they are.
