We can afford it but it looks more likely that he doesn't want to come. Few clubs our size even make £30m transfers or offer £100k a week let alone more, we're already pushing boundaries most won't.

I think what is possible for clubs like ours is changing all the time due to the exponential increase in TV money. Transfer inflation is out of control as a result and I expect to see a few mid table clubs make 30mn+ signings in the near future.

Lovejoy Posted 5 July 2017 Posted 5 July 2017 I love all the comments about how we should bid. If the bugger doesn't want to come, he doesn't want to come.

Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 5 July 2017 Posted 5 July 2017 Swansea is a "pretty little shitty city" (Dylan Thomas). I'm not sure what Leicester is. The lads got a brain and an identity. Waving an extra 20k under his nose is not going to sway him.

You presume you could do better of course with your vast knowledge for football management sitting in fornt of a computer screen playing games tells you know how to do a job of DoF. Please give me a break, The nonsense and jealousy is ridiculous.

Playing with better players surely will?, and also ambition I doubt Swansea will ever push for a Top 7 place.

Are we enough of a better project to persuade him? You may be right, but I think we would need to sell him a serious blue print, as I suspect he will stay unless champions league or Europa is offered.
mullet Posted 5 July 2017 Posted 5 July 2017 Here they go again SPEND, SPEND, SPEND! Everton have made a bid for Benfica forward Raul Jimenez, believed to be around €45million (£39.6million), but the Portuguese club will only accept a fee of €50million (£44million), according to reports in Portugal. The Mexican has spoken openly about his desire to play in the Premier League.
Russell sprout Posted 5 July 2017 Posted 5 July 2017 1 hour ago, Babylon said: I'm sure the club would also, but there comes a point where £40m and £120k a week over 4 years (£65m total) perhaps isn't feasible, but £20m and £70k a week (£35m total) is. Neither will have much resale value come the end of the contract. These are good points and things most don't take into consideration when we're linked with a player, they simply look at the fee and say geriiiiiiminnnn, but you've highlighted points as to why it's not always possible or feasible

That £30m could pay for the new stand which makes us look a progressive club, that helps attract players who don't currently see us as a step up from a Swansea, will give us the extra revenue to pay a bit extra in wages that others can't. (not saying that's the reasoning, just an example of the bigger picture stuff I'm sure they consider). I'm sure they want to push on and Sigrdssson can probably help us push on more than Deeney, but it's a juggling act and the timing of when they make that push forward is important.
esoog Posted 5 July 2017 Posted 5 July 2017 I think we have the depth to have to not sign or chase him. Bringing in too many starter players gets the team chemistry in trouble.

FrankieADZ Posted 5 July 2017 Posted 5 July 2017 would still be incredibly shocked if we actually got him tbh; as said already we'd have stood more of a chance of getting him last season given we had CL football, think its either him staying at Swansea or going somewhere like Everton(If they Barkley)

Sol thewall Bamba Posted 5 July 2017 Posted 5 July 2017 Has a credible source ever actually linked us with him over the last few years? Seems to just be a bit of an echo chamber kind of situation in the fan base.

Even if we did go steaming in with a money bags offer, given his reputation and calibbur we could just end up starting off a bidding war, pushing the price up on ourselves. Some times a bit of patience in a deal does wonders. It seems apparent there are a number of interested parties, some clubs with more pull than ourselves, but all have so far resisted making a firm offer - possibly because they don't feel the deal Swansea are looking for represents value. This may mean that our rivals begin to explore other targets - and if they conclude deals for these targets, there's suddenly less rivals for his signature and we move up in the pecking order. It certainly feels like Everton are close to signing alternatives that rule them out of perusing this deal further, but with rumours of Spurs taking a look we may have to play a waiting game a little longer. There is obviously a further important point... if we put concerted time and effort into making a deal, only to come up short, not only would this be an embrassement for the club, it would also represent time and effort wasted that could have been spent on other deals. A club will want to be sure there key efforts are rewarded, so our not making a move may well be because we realistically understand that at the moment we won't get a signature regardless of what money we throw that way. I'm more willing to trust that the clubs caution is well served because of these logical observations and if this tactic means we end up getting the player for a more platable fee and wage package, this patience would be time well spent. Furthermore this also shows that those in power actually care much more about the overall health of the club than short sighted reactionary comments from fans can show. I accept that is because as a fan the heart can overrule the head, but the club can't be like that, it has to make considered decisions.
