And Martin O'Neill's master stroke In the most unexpected way Has paid off And the man he signed for a million pounds Has scored a goal that's worth A lot lot more than that. Stevie Claridge hits the back of the net and that means that Leicester are back in the Premiership" We might have won 2 League Cups, England's top 3 leagues, done ourselves proud in Europe, achieved the impossible and created some absolutely incredible memories, but this was my first trip (of 5) to Wembley as a kid and my first real experience of the utter madness that is Leicester City. I used to watch the VHS every day before school, which is probably why I can still recite the commentary off by heart. Easily the best day of my childhood. LTID
Vlad the Fox Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 Great day. I told the worried bloke next to me we wouldn't be needing Kalac when he came on, 30 seconds later he'd got hold of me screaming 'you were right, you were right', absolute bedlam in the section behind the goal. Oh what days.
Kitchandro Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 Great, iconic commentary. Alan Parry was amazing before he went senile about 10 years ago.
dayday Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 I was sat right behind that goalpost where it went in, amazing memories and great times for us City fans, we fully deserved to win that day.
Lionheart10 Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 Claridge what a legend for that goal,he was the sort of player you could imagine didn't warm up,had a fag in the changing room, probably a drink and a bet before the game then just got on with it.
FLAN Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 I think that game was the last time I had any contact with a good friend from school. He's gone off the radar completely
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 Grew up watching highlights of that game and season review on vhs. If could go back in time I would go to that game
Jattdogg Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 21 years ago today i was a 16 year old horny teen so probably having a wank every 30 minutes. Thought id just put that out there incase this turns into a what were you doing 21 years ago today thread.
fazzyfox Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 Like a lot of people I've spoken to about it since, I was discussing the Kalac arrival and we were shouting "don't let them shoot, keep it up that end" when I saw the ball fly in and then time stood still just for a couple of seconds and then "It's In...it's Iiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnn....we've done it.....we've donnnnnnnnne iiiiiit aaaaaaahh" whilst hugging a stranger. The delay I put down to it seeming too good to be true, there was almost a breaking down of the elements, "The ball has gone in, between the two posts, which means that....." followed by a brief check as to whether there's any law in the land why it shouldn't stand (I think Nigel Martyn's reaction or rather lack of had caused this brief uncertainty) and then pandemonium. We'll never know what would have happened in a shoot out, there could, in a parallel universe, have been a Kalac statue (would need a lot of stone, the lanky so and so) or we could have been saying "Poole would have saved at least one of those you useless..." There's a suggestion that it affected Palace players concentration so maybe it's not as irrelevant as it seems.
Fox92 Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 Stevie Claridge, the scorer of two of our most important goals ever. Absolute legend. ... And the best commentary line ever "it must be the winner...."
Fox92 Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 Also, a mention on Claridge... I asked for is autograph before a game at Filbert Street. He walked past me saying he "was late".... And then, he ran back, apologized, and gave me his autograph (even personalized it for me). Top man. Will always be a legend.
tom27111 Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 WHAT. A. DAY. Remember it like yesterday, no booze allowed on the coaches, so buy a bottle of cloudy lemonade and fill it with Hooch. I was only 16

Happy 31st ?? ....was right behind the goal and it was like slow motion watching Claridge shoot , Palace keeper routed to the spot looking over his left shoulder as the ball sailed past him into corner of the net....pandemonium followed and one of the group with me from Ireland ended up 2 or 3 rows in front of us on the floor....when he got up he looked different....his false teeth which none of us knew he had had flown out of his mouth.....never to be seen again...great memories ?
Foxinscouseland Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 My happiest city moment for, nearly twenty years,
whetstonefox Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 One of the best days of my life, best seats I've ever had at Wembley right next to the steps to collect the little Endsleigh trophy, down pub later and met the missus. it was the perfect day in so many ways, best performance, best finish to a game All those trips to Wembley in the 90s Another favourite memory of that period was queing overnight for tickets for the Blackburn play off final in 92
bovril Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 Still my favourite Leicester memory. I know the commentary off by heart. As an 11 year old it doesn't get better than that. Poole, Grayson, Whitlow, Watts, Walsh, Izzet, Lennon, Taylor, Claridge, Parker, Heskey. I'll be able to reel off that XI on my deathbed.

MC Prussian Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 Are we now going to do this every year on the 27th of May?
tom27111 Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 I was bang level with Claridge as he stuck it, the thing I vividly remember is a split second of pure silence as the ball headed to the goal... then euphoria
Chico1958 Posted 27 May 2017 Posted 27 May 2017 All I remember was Spider coming on for Kev Then jumping aound like a kid............ closely followed by getting very drunk The following day going in to work and and thinking MON was God and we're doomed But, as history will show we did ok

We were brilliant second half. That midfield of Parker, Lennon, Izzet and Taylor really clicked and Heskey ran them ragged. That set the platform for Super Stevie Claridge.
Far Post Gerry Posted 28 May 2017 Posted 28 May 2017 **** me, surely that can't be 21 years! I was there, sitting (well, standing) almost directly behind Stevie's boot. It seemed to go in slow motion, floating on air. Then we just saw the net ripple and went mental. Unbelievable. I'll never forget that day.
