I read in a Secular magazine a while back that the defended a preacher in court who had had a go at some people that were bad mouthing him. Someone also told me that the ones who go there do not like Muslims. Secular is supposed to be tolerant of all religion even though they do not adhere to any one. They are against all faith schools but Ok with all faith ones.

Yep, there are nearly always armed police at London Bridge station so they could be at Borough Market literally within seconds. Makes you wonder if something happen in Leicester, or even worse a small town, what the response time would be.

Low grade weaponry can't be prevented can it. Nobody can stop a vehicle running innocent people over. We have bollards for pedestrianized areas - ie in City Center - but nobody can stop a lunatic and his mates cruising down the pavement of a very busy street - even busier than London Bridge/Westminster Bridge, look at places like Oxford Street.

 

But yeah, our security services are marvelous. May said earlier that they have prevented 5 attacks - I'm not sure in what timescale but it's still impressive.

Look at Lincolnshire - 4th biggest county?. Some big places - Lincoln, Skeg, Boston, Grantham etc. The distance you'd have to cover to get an armed response would be massive. Need to heavily invest in firearms officers across the country. Every officer should be taser trained.

If we're going to fight the spread out Wahhabism in the UK, we need to.

 

1. Better monitor who funds extremist religious organisations

 

2. Coordinate squeezing the source of the funding

 

3. Remove the arguments that help enlist people to extremist

 

The first is difficult and the kind of thing forensic accounting is good at.

 

The second involves moving away from fossil fuels and dependence on the Saudis, not just in the UK, but in the whole of Europe and US.

 

The third would involve a more proactive foreign policy - where you see British investment rather than bombs and troops.

 

These four things don't help.

 

1. Trump leaving the Paris accord and therefore more of a focus on renewables

I've said before, my long-term solution is to improve education and equality. The more people know and the more equal we all are the better.

 

In the short-term, if the intelligence communities know about individuals and cells, they need to shut them down now. If mosques, churches or even WI groups, express any extremist views, shut them down. If the promoter is not British, kick them out if found to be illegal by the courts (if any criminal, as found by the courts, is not British, kick them out. I would be if I broke the law). 

 

Long-term, let's help others improve to prevent extremist views. Short-term, let's route out extremists, and build people up.

There was a terrorist attack on Glasgow in 2007 where the 2 perpetrators were a doctor and an engineer. It's not a lack of education that causes these things.
