He was a safe & less risky appointment but was unsure whether the owners thought it might of been time to close that chapter and start a fresh. Putting emotions aside I had the same thoughts. Thought they might go for a 'name' and splash the cash to try & start a new era similar to how they did with Sven but they've taken the safe option and I can't argue with that. As a coach he's one of the best in the business and has all the attributes to be a great manager. No doubt theyll be experienced additions to the backroom staff to help him also. Think the club will take the same safe approach with regards to the main transfers this summer I.e Proven Premier league players. Goodluck Shakey! I think it goes deeper than that . I'm sure in their talks they have asked him what his ambitions are and how does he mean to achieve those aims . Equally I'm sure he has asked them what sort of financial backing and how much say he has in bringing in players. His appointment was not off the cuff based on how he saved us last season , the owners are far to shrewd for that. Again I'm pretty sure there is a joint game plan brokered by both parties, and long may that last.
Ralph Posted 9 June 2017 Posted 9 June 2017 Opportunity missed. Monk named as Middleborough Manager today. He should have been in charge here.

I can understand the 'big name' idea ... Or keeping the man who turned things round and deserves the chance ... But Monk ?!? .... Behave.
Milo Posted 9 June 2017 Posted 9 June 2017 Gone completely under the radar nationally - which I like.

And great to see us giving an English manager a chance in the PL. What an opportunity for Shakey to make a name for himself. I reckon he'll give it 100% and work his nuts off to get the best out of the players. I'm delighted with the appointment and delighted for him personally. Today is a good day Totally agree with Izzy

Foxhateram Posted 10 June 2017 Posted 10 June 2017 Great news! Contunuity at this point is key. We have a strong core squad and didn't need a new manager with a big overhaul and new style. If Craig can add a few bits of quality to the team and them some solid back up players (either through the academy or else where) then I think we will be right up there again. Europa has to be the target this season surely?

GaelicFox Posted 10 June 2017 Posted 10 June 2017 Bloody embarrassing reading all the multi million pound deals others are doing and then we get a mention "Leicester City are close to signing non-league defender Sam Hughes, 20, from National League side Chester for £125,000" bloody embarrasing Rudkin .... get it sorted man get some big deals cooking

Only N'Didi was any good. You cannot judge a player just by his valuation, especially before he's played a game...

I just wish we'd play some bloody games so all this Shakespeare speculation will end and we can start talking about performances.

whoareyaaa Posted 10 June 2017 Posted 10 June 2017 Happy with this, has the backbone of Pearson and knows the club inside out. Good luck!! gerimin!!!
whoareyaaa Posted 10 June 2017 Posted 10 June 2017 Get Pearson in as his assistant and we are laughing!!

norwichfox Posted 10 June 2017 Posted 10 June 2017 define permanent in the context of football managers....starting point perhaps Brian Clough at Leeds.

WTF has any of that post to do with Shakey being named manager? But to comment on it at the price if he's half the player Mahrez is I'm well fvcking happy. I will also give the lad a chance before moaning.

And given that half the Championship seemed interested in Hughes I'd say he fitted in nicely with under 23 squad strengthening, possible development into a senior squad member and a likely people-trading profit whatever. A club doesn't evolve on big deals alone. Especially when you lose on a few of those as well. Besides the "bigger deals" coming in haven't been so convincing in recent seasons. Mahrez, Kante and Vardy weren't found in Harrods.
Sionnach gorm Posted 10 June 2017 Posted 10 June 2017 4 hours ago, MPH said: Surprised they chose him over Pearson to be honest... I think Pearson's problem is his abrasiveness with the staff and press, as seen at both Leicester and Derby. Him, and others such as Di Canio, may be good managers but they create problems and draw unwanted attention. It is truly unfortunate for Pearson.

Very few deals have been completed by any clubs so far and we will be active and personally hope we go for either experienced prem players, top top quality like Esteban or promising cheaper options - not average overseas players.

I put it here because the stupid 2 week delay in signing shaky is the reason what we are not in the hunt for quality players
