Ah bugger, I forgot you're a veggie. Do you eat fish? The smokey fish pie is gorgeous.

Nope.

But if ever a menu could tempt me it would be that one.

Edit: I've just shown it to the missus and even she's drooling - and she's a vegan.

Even the ones without meat, Matt?

Astonishing.

I don't regard those as pies.

I have a client in Banbury and whenever I go there, we always have lunch at this place:

Famous for it's award winning pies and if you're ever in that neck of the woods, it's a must visit.

My favorite is their roast turkey, stuffing and gravy pie with puff pastry - it's out of this world...

Stew wearing hats.

Not pies.

That's a stew wearing hats menu.

It should be, http://www.crownandtuns.co.uk/our-stew-wearing-hats/

Lamb and veg, shortcrust, individual size, gravy.

Pretty much all pies are great BUT you've listed "deconstructed" as an option. Stew with a bit of puff pastry placed on top is not a pie it's a fvcking outrage. I got scammed with that once.

Not on there but surely it's gotta be chicken balti.

Love chicken balti, but does anyone know why you can't buy it from asda, tesco etc? I've only ever seen it sold at the football.

Stew in the vicinity of a bit of pastry is not a pie.

Got to be a proper pie, shortcrust pastry, steak and ale (preferable a proper stout) filling. Mash and gravy with it, not whatever the **** pea wet is, or the weird northern tradition of putting mint sauce on everything rather than just lamb.

A pie of any worth has to be a complete surround of firm shortcrust pastry which holds the filling which should be IMO 20%gravy and 80% meat and which has a shortcrust lid which is properly sealed at the edges.

Not the "non-pie" pie, which is a ladle of stew with some wishy-washy flaky pastry on top.

I think Pukka make the best ready made pies.

The independent butchers (can't remember the name) in Sileby sell some amazing homemade pies, as well as homemade sausages in different varieties. Pork and chilli, mmmmmmmm.

Back in the seventies, a guy I went to school with went to work at Pukka Pies after leaving school (I won't mention his name, but he was/is probably known to a few of the older guys on this forum - a bit of a 'face' at the time).

He was sacked a few weeks in for squeezing his zits into the pie mixture; I have never eaten one since.

It really brings it home to you that you never really know what you're eating, unless you make it yourself, doesn't it?

I never get the people who give waiters a hard time either.
