Chelsea's Nathaniel Chalobah target of Leicester, Swansea, Watford - sources

Leicester, Swansea and Watford are eyeing moves for Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC.

Chalobah's future at Chelsea is up in the air with the player yet to hold down a place in the side at Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old, who has come through the ranks at Chelsea, is entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and he is weighing up his future.

Chelsea are keen to tie him down to a new deal, but Chalobah could be tempted away in the search of regular first-team football.

Chalobah, who was a member of the England squad that reach the semifinals of last month's European Under-21 Championship, made 15 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season, although only one of them was a start in the Premier League.

Chalobah has spent time on loan at Watford, Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough, Burnley, Reading and Napoli during his time at Chelsea, but if he is not guaranteed regular action he could decide to move on.

The news has alerted a number of Chelsea's Premier League rivals to Chalobah's possible availability this summer.

Watford remain admirers of Chalobah from his time on loan at Vicarage Road during the 2012-13 season, while Swansea boss Paul Clement is a big fan of the midfielder having worked with the player during his time as youth coach and first-team coach at Stamford Bridge.

Leicester are also keeping tabs on Chalobah as they look to freshen up their squad after a disappointing campaign last term and Chalobah is sure to have no shortage of offers if he does decide to leave Chelsea.

Not sure if this is another case of our name being randomly thrown in to the mix but it's an interesting link, always had plenty of potential but never really been given the chance at a higher level.

Chalobah is well known for his versatility, work-rate, and fitness levels, both in defending and attacking sense. He is described as, "Tall, athletic and can operate in either midfield or defence, being notably quick in the tackle."

Sounds decent. We need another defensive midfielder apart from Ndidi and if he can play as a centre half as well then great.

can hear it now. OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH NATHANIEL CHALOOOOOOOOOOOBAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH. Please, if we do sign him let's not give him a Slimanic style drone chant :E

Such a Swansea or Watford signing can't see him coming here. Hasn't really seemed to progress in the past few years but clearly has talent. Needs a move away !

Hasn't really progressed by the looks of things. Scored one of the best goals I've ever seen away here that time. Just mental how well he caught that.

Would love this to be honest, with players like Gray, Chilwell and Ndidi the future would be very bright. Hopefully we can get the best out of all of them.

Was just talking about him the other day in that I thought he might be worth a try after I watched him playing for the England under 21s. Clearly I accidentally linked us, rather than it being a coincidence. Silly me.

Another defensive midfielder to go with the 743 we already have.

Who are our defensive midfielders? Ndidi, Mendy and Amartey? I guess we'd have to let one go. Never been conviced by Amartey and Mendy may still have a glass ankle.

He's a good player with plenty of potential. If it's case of getting Chalobah in to allow Mendy to go back to France then that would be a good move all round imho.

Oooh, I hadn't thought of that one, I like it, if we get him I'm starting it. ;)
