Burnley targeting Sheffield Wednesday's Tom Lees

SIMON JONES: Tom Lees remains among the targets being considered by Burnley.

Stoke City and Leicester are also understood to have considered the 26-year-old who has been a mainstay of Sheffield Wednesday's defence since joining on a free transfer from Leeds United in 2014.

Burnley have also earmarked Lamine Kone at Sunderland though it is understood the Ivory Coast international is waiting on offers from other clubs.

Probably a back up option if we cannot get Chris Smalling/ Jonny Evans

The Mail got this from HITC - see the TT Comedy Rumours Thread (HITC) - ie it's a load of rubbish !

He had a very good season in the Championship last season.  Fair play to those who think he'd be terrible for us, but I hope none of you are being two-faced and calling for Lawrence to get a start.

Strange to see fans so dismissive of a very good player from the Championship having won the Premier League with Morgan, Simpson, Schmeichel, Drinkwater and Vardy, all of whom had previously spent the majority of their career in the football league.

He's been one of the better defenders in the Championship for a few years now, and the gap between PL and FL has been narrowed significantly in the past 5 years or so. With Maguire (another lower-league allumni who's taken to the top level naturally) already aboard with Morgan, Huth, ****s and Benny as well, it's a risk worth taking.

The gap between the bottom of the PL and upper FL may be narrow, but the way we want to be heading we need to do better than Tom Lees. He's steady in the Championship but not an improvement on Benalouane who is currently 4th choice.

I'd love to be proved wrong, I just can't see it happening.

I reckon it's as simple as, Leicester are in the market for a CB, Stoke and Burnley have shown interest in Lees and we've been thrown in by the journalist.

He's actually not a bad player fbh. Sheff Wednesday are pretty solid defensively. Would rather we went for Evans or Smalling though.
