Only a friendly but good to see a youngster get some game time.

 

i thought he looked okay and was not overawed showing a few nice touches!

 

May benefit from a loan spell but one to watch.

Did well on the ball, didn't panic and always looked to play out from the back, but didn't see much of him defensively. Loan to a league 1/ championship club would be good for his development.

Side note, what did people think of Elder, played in last seasons friendly against Oxford and didn't do too bad today against a pacey winger, obviously not premier league quality yet but maybe another loan for him to a championship club to see where his development is at.

Second side note, disapointing to not see Barnes today although I imagine the formation change ment he wouldn't have fitted in naturally. Would have been better to play him Lw instead of Lawrence first half and play Larence instead of King second half when we switched to 3 at the back. Playing a 3-5-2 with a DM and not a CAM ment we had no linkup between the midfield and the strikers which led to few chances and a boring second half.

Not good at potentially PL level. Most players have a preferred foot. But I was amazed he even used his left for walking.

Hopefully we'll see Barnes on Saturday. As we're crying out for an attacking midfielder in a squad of defensive CM's I'm hoping he hits the ground running.

Could be a bit of nerves. He probably went with what felt most comfortable to him.

 

Hopefully he can learn to allow himself to make mistakes - it's the best way to learn quickly.

I thought of all the young 'uns he looked the best. Calm and controlled, this could be the year he makes the step up.

He will play every game without fail in belguim minutes to develop.

Next season after could see him on loan to championship

Looks like we’re going to splash 20m on a 3rd CB instead of promoting a youth player! Will surely mean we’re switching to 3 at the back as a 20m back up doesn’t make sense.

He will be 22 by the end of next season, he's not 18/19. Very strange decision IMo. Clearly not putting moores needs as a first priority. What good is it him playing in the Belgium 2nd Divison? A leagye 1 or championship move would have been a much better move for him where he will be playing against better players and hopefully will improve as a result of it.

Perhaps he'll never be PL quality? 

 

That's the fate of the vast majority of players in PL academies.

I was hoping he'd be involved in preseason with the first team. Judging from what the Leuven fans on here have said he's too good for that level so I don't think he'll gain anything by staying for another season

At least if he was sent out on loan to a championship club he'd  then get a picture of where he stands within the leagues in England.

Or maybe the owners are putting their business interests first.

Maybe he is good enough for the the Championship and is developing steadily at Leuven, but having him in that squad also helps strengthen the team.

 

I think the player will know what would be better for his development, so must be happy for him to agree.
