Southgate would have picked him for sure. It was mental. I dont remember there being anything about an injury then because Drinkwater posted on twitter about being gutted to miss out but good luck to the boys, or sumink. Him not getting picked was typical and why we deserved to lose. In one of his last games for England prior to that he was MOFTM for f**hs sake. But Wilshere was brought along instead.... Yeah, think Southgate would be more Drinky favourable, the guy has been unfortunate with injuries at the wrong time regarding England. I hope he is sorted now, gets a good season with us under his belt and gets back to playing how he should and getting the call up
ronnup Posted 3 August 2017 Posted 3 August 2017 For me what I remember about Danny is those 1-0 wins in the title winning season. He was immense at breaking up play, organising, getting stuck in and then moving play up the pitch. Never sell for me. I bloody love him.
tom27111 Posted 3 August 2017 Posted 3 August 2017 Southgate wanted him in every England squad. In October 2016, he was called up, checked over by England's medical staff, then withdrawn from the squad. It was agreed with the FA and Leicester that Drinkwater should stay at Leicester so his injury could be managed and he wouldn't be called up again until he'd had surgery, which he did at the end of last season. This has been discussed to death on this forum in the last 9 months.

DD was acknowledged by Pearson as a player who was a complicated character who rarely does interviews and is a bit miserable so 'frustrated and huffy" is nothing new. 'Complicated character' is a fantastic replacement for cvnt! Great season with Kanté but I can't really get behind the bloke. Obviously I don't know him but just from what he gives off on the pitch he seems like an insufferable pr*ck. Of course, I don't mind that if he's putting the performances in. We can all agree we don't like Suarez as a human but we'd all have him. However, the fact he's been woeful for a very long time makes the prospect of him leaving an appealing one. James, N'didi, Iborra and a new creative player in the middle will be more than enough.

That doesn't stop Chelsea being interested though. Makes no difference to them if he goes to the WC or not.

He's a game changer, sell Mahrez and get the more consistent Willian at a "cut price" than we bring in a Drinkwater replacement.

VLC86 Posted 3 August 2017 Posted 3 August 2017 Has anyone mentioned how Southgate said he would be in every England squad yet? I feel this point may have been missed.
AjcW Posted 3 August 2017 Posted 3 August 2017 Willian is potentially the most underrated attacking midfielder in the world shut up you muppets!

ozvaldo Posted 3 August 2017 Posted 3 August 2017 Sell Drinky, buy Gylfi. Different position, but with Iborra, James & N'Didi, (and everyone's favourite club hero, Kingy as back up), we well covered in that area. Kasper Amartey, Wes, Maguire Albrighton, N'Didi, James, Gray, Gylfi Ian Nacho, Vardy

ARM1968 Posted 3 August 2017 Posted 3 August 2017 Money has taken Neymar to PSG. Money would bring Willian here. Just need the ambition and it could be done.
