He's still looked our most creative player so far in preseason. He's a class above the rest of our team. In the second half against BMG shakey said we needed to put some creativity on the pitch which we did and then won the game. That's the difference between winning and losing. His pass to Kelechi was simple but incisive and that's what he gives us time and again.

It doesn't demonstrate footballing ambition as stated in his ambition - it just says he wants to leave. ?

Those people who are always on the phone talking to headhunters or sneaking away for interviews. There's no way their commitment to the job is the same as when they joined because they've made their mind up they're leaving. They go through the motions, do the bare minimum and then just pick up their pay cheque. They've emotionally and sub conciously already 'checked out' and their performance suffers. I fear this is the Mahrez scenario all over... You're right but if he's to stay he'll no other choice than upping his level if he wants to move, because another bad season and his stock will go further down. You check out mentally when you're sure you have your move otherwise the deception would be immense. I think Riyad is well aware of that.

I fear this is the Mahrez scenario all over... Mahrez can't afford to go through the motions. Last season he was quite poor considering his ability and the cynics say one season wonder. Had he performed last season like he did in 2015/16 it might have been him going to PSG for £200m.

He has made it quite clear he doesn't want to play for us and his head is well and truly turned. Do we really want another season of him turning up in matches when he feels like it and pouncing around the rest of the time? I'd rather have Gray on the pitch any day. He needs to play well to get the move he wants, I think he's shown willing preseason and he's said several times he'll give his all should he stay. At least he's not on strike yet like some players do.

I've said since day 1 that I want him to stay and reproduce his 15/16 form mate. Even if he does stay and raise his game, it's purely for his own personal gain and not because he's committed to our cause. The whole sorry saga leaves a bad taste really...
Albert Posted 6 August 2017 Posted 6 August 2017 The owners felt embarrassed, bullied and ripped off last year in the Kante deal as they were powerless due to the release clause. Trust me, they won't allow that to happen again and will stand firm on the price they've put on Riyad regardless of any games his agent, interested clubs or the player himself try to play to force a move. It's £50m or nothing. Simple as that.
Babylon Posted 6 August 2017 Posted 6 August 2017 Their mentality that we should do them a favour and take a shit price is laughable.

Everyone outside of the club seems to think we should do ourselves a favour and let him go for less than we want, as he'll be a disruptive influence and an expensive sulky baby. I can't wait for this window to close. The owners are right to stick to their guns. If we do give in, it's license for other players now or in the future to start this bullshit to get a move.

You have to question his thought process in this transfer, I'm not under the belief we are bigger and better than Roma but he could do SOOO much better if he just gets his head down for another season and do the business. Just think, if he didn't downtools last season he may have got his Barca move after the Neymar saga.

The rest of the lads won't allow that mate. Riyad knows that and it's not in his nature to be like that. No doubt his agent will be trying to shake the situation up as he's on a big pay day but like I've said the owners won't be messed around
Great Boos Up Posted 6 August 2017 Posted 6 August 2017 With a very tough opening set of fixtures Mahrez stays and plays. If he performs out of skin he'll get his January move. But then we'll be top 6ish and definitely want 50m. He should have let his talking be with his feet not his mouth.

The common consensus is that he'd downed tools and couldn't be arsed last season which personally I think is very harsh. We were a poor team as a whole last yr. He has that nonchalant style which people mistake for laziness when it's not going great but it's hard to have an impact on a game when you're being marked by 2 if not 3 players. His thought process (influenced heavily by his agent) was to come out early with his intentions and get a big move. That clearly hasn't materialised. It's been made clear to his agent that it's £50m or nothing

Izzy Posted 6 August 2017 Posted 6 August 2017 I tell you what it feels like... You find a young homeless woman living on the street and take her in and offer her food and shelter. Then she stays a while, starts to sort herself out and eventually flourishes into a beautiful young lady. And then you fall in love, propose and get married. The first few years are bliss, the sex is great and then you have two wonderful kids together. And then she gets bored and threatens to leave you - so you buy her a bigger house, new clothes and a flash car in an attempt to cling on to her. Another year goes by and the sex is non existent. This time she tells you she can do better than you and that she's waiting for 'Mr right' to come along. In the mean time you still buy her pearls and pay the mortgage, put petrol in her car and buy her new clothes. You know you're being taken for a ride but cling on to the hope she'll change her mind and fall back in love with you. Although she's incredibly unhappy she says she'll stick around for a bit 'for the sake of the kids' but you know she's out cheating on you every night trying to find a new bloke.
