  • Crystal Palace face a fight with West Brom and Leicester for Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho

Any centre half being lined up for a transfer is automatically linked with us and West Brom.

Every time I read we're linked with a centre half so are West Brom, it's just lazy journalism.

Crystal Palace are close to a £25m agreement with Liverpool for the signing of 27-year-old defender Mamadou Sakho. (Source: Daily Mail)

I think he is decent. £25 million is a fair price in today's market and probably better value than Evans will turn out to be if quotes of £37million are true!

Can see people's reservations as he does look like a Sol Bamba type player but he is a lot better than given credit for and another leader on the field.

Would be happy for us to sign him, but obviously would prefer Smalling (very unlikely) or Evans at a "sensible" price, certainly not over £25million :o

If this is a 'fight' , then I hope it's one we lose ....Bomb scare !

No, he's not. He might not be as comfortable with the ball as Maguire but he's still a solid defender who also can score on set pieces. If he didn't screw up with his "fat burning" crap, he'd still be playing for Liverpool.

Can't believe some are snubbing him.

Back 3 of Sakho, Maguire and one of Morgan and Huth would be a good option,  Maguire looks made for a back 3 and Sakho's erratic moments would be covered by the other 2.

I can see why we would be after him, personally I would prefer a Gibson/Mawson or Smallings/Evans, we are certainly not too good for Sakho though, he also fits the mould of a player that  has something to prove.

Every player we are linked with is either too expensive or not good enough for the mighty Leicester.

Sometimes I miss the days of getting excited by signing David Bell on loan from Luton Town.

EDIT: Sakho is decent.

And who would you then deploy at RWB? Albrighton could do the job and Chilwell would be the natural choice on the left - although as many have suggested, he isn't the finished product yet. You really envisage Shakey dropping Simpson and Fuchs? And if he does retain a flat back four, is he about to drop the Captain with the eventual return of Huth?

I think back four options of Maguire, Huth, Morgan and Sakho would create a nice headache for Shakey. Good balance there if you went for a partnership of Maguire and Sakho. Decent age band too. It's a yes from me.

Hes quality. People saying no to him obviously haven't watched him. Hes a lot better on the ball than most give him credit for too.

Or watched the wrong games, I've seen him play a fair bit and he was one of the worst players I've ever seen. So much so, I remember wondering how he was even a professional footballer.  He was rated by Palace though and by all accounts did very well there.
