This has moved from an idea to a firm belief for me in recent times: a supranational organisation with enforcing power beyond that of any nation state (basically the U.N. with actual teeth), focusing on issues that affect the entire world (such as environmental ones) is not only desirable but is actually critical for the long term, as the big nation states have proved and are proving, time and again, that they cannot be trusted to act in the best interest of anyone else short term or even themselves long term.

In light of recent events, an unpopular opinion is that this probably should apply to more than just environmental concerns too, given that the bigger nation states that hold the power in the UN are taking a side and doing precious little, if anything, to actually help.

Of course, the attendant problem of "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" would still apply, but then I'm not sure how much worse that would be that the current situation anyway.

Same weirdos who find Miranda funny.

Miranda was mildly amusing if you wanted to watch something silly.  Mrs Browns boys I find utterly appalling.

I thought Mrs. Brown’s Boys had a certain charm at first, being like a cross between a sitcom and a local improv group. The early scripts were old-fashioned and non-PC but had a certain heart to them.

Whenever I’ve seen more recent episodes, they look rushed, not thought-out, with too many in-jokes and any heart turned into cloying saccharine. I also had the misfortune to see the movie, where he genuinely plays a second character in addition to Mrs. Brown: An East Asian martial arts master. If you think this sounds horribly racist and inappropriate then you’d be absolutely right.

One of the very funniest episodes in my opinion.

The majority of Friends funniest episodes involve Ross

I've always felt he was the best actor on the show (I know Jennifer Aniston has done a lot of work).

Don't think I agree with this.

I'm a firm believer that, by and large, an area tends to get the football club its people want and "deserve."

If there's enough of a population in an area that wants to support their local team, that team will exist. Look at Leicester, football will always be played here, even if the football club folded a phoenix club would just rise in it's place and always be a club worth owning and investing in. Leicester will always exist in the top three-ish flights of professional football and given long enough I'm sure any phoenix club would get back to, at very least, the Championship and ~15/20k gates minimum.

There as many clubs as there needs to be and the fact the pyramid is so massive and so deep sort of proves that. Look at somewhere like Boston, population of 45k, in the absolute arse end of nowhere, haven't been in professional football in over a decade, play in 6th tier of the pyramid. In any other country in the world that'd basically be pub football. Even football mad countries like Spain, France, Germany and Italy - you go down to their 6th tier and there's probably nobody watching except family and friends of the players and whichever livestock happen to share the pitch with the club. Boston get 1.5k people on average to their home games. That's more than plenty of clubs in the third tier of Spain, France and Italy.

AlbinoLeffe used to bounce around Serie B for ages a few years ago, their average gate in the third tier now is about 500. Pro Vercelli are seven time Serie A winners who average a gate of about 800. AC Trento are the major professional club in a city of 120,000 people, the capital of a province of 540,000 people. Their average gate? 1,325 in a ground smaller than the Jakesmans Stadium. They're all in Serie C Girone A (tier 3) at the moment.

England is football mad, there’s the perception Italians are more mental because they have more flares and flags and a football newspaper.

Yet here we have insane numbers even for totally amateur football. Small L2 clubs still take 100s away on weeknights, the biggest barometer of passion is essentially how many people will go and watch.

Football isn’t cheap here either like it is in most of Europe.

Italy is weird because most people you meet are genuinely into football, they have a couple of sports papers that are mostly football, numerous programmes dedicated to analysing and discussing football. But crap attendances. And even when a game is on in a bar you rarely get a big crowd watching it.

Very good points made. The depth of interest in football in England is amazing and to be celebrated

With you on this, Ross was the funniest throughout all the seasons. Chandler was for the first 2/3 seasons then the drugs kicked in.

Strip poker would be better.

I'd rig the deck in my favour.

Halfway through Friends was when she looked her absolute best IMO. Same with Courtney Cox before the surgeries started.

The vast majority of Netflix series involve people shooting and killing with guns, whether it be war-based, crime-based or western-based. Maybe to be expected from American media, but it makes the whole product one-dimensional.

I guess it's based on the "recommended for you" links.

The more I see of people posting on social media about Israel/Palestine the more I’m beginning to believe there is a subdued level of antisemitism throughout this country.

I don’t know what the answer is, I haven’t got a clue.

I follow a lot of what I see as normal people, I tend to steer clear of the right wing nutters. I see a lot of support for Palestine and criticism of Israel but very little condemnation of the horrific actions of Hamas which set all this in motion.

I’m seeing a lot of let’s find the racists from yesterday posts but I’ve yet to come across anyone who isn’t Jewish come out and appeal to people to find those the Met are looking for in connection with hate crimes whilst marching for Palestine.

Just my opinion.

It’s not antisemitic to criticise Israel.

You’re right it’s not but they’ve not said that.

I’m not on much social media so not sure what is being referenced but I’ve seen lots of examples of accusations of antisemitism when it’s clearly aimed at the Israeli government or the actions of settlers. Obviously, I abhor any kind of racism or abuse of Jews but I’m not seeing it from these demonstrations.

I'm not sure if it's a good thing that Netflix also has reality dating shows, but you're right at least it means a different type of show.

There is the odd good comedy show if we search hard enough. There was a good one that had Michael Douglas running a method acting school in California, but I don't know if it is still available to view.
