Do you think? I would have thought Kronenbourg or Stella would have been the top 2. Hardly ever see anyone drinking Carling where I am.

Can imagine Carling is probably quite popular up north, though.

I’d reckon so yeah - it’s usually A. The cheapest if not one of the cheapest pints in any pub, B. Readily available across the country and C. Fairly (I suppose) inoffensive. I’d be amazed if it wasn’t very near the top or at the very top of lists showing the best selling beers.

Yea just had a look and Carling is top followed by Fosters . I'd wager like you said if its sold in more pubs than any other larger it will be the most popular .

But I'd bet if you ask people drinking it in pubs they wouldn't say it was their favourite .

Regarding Guinness i did hear once that it just the fact that Irish landlords know how to keep it . I remember an Irish landlord in one of the Leicester pubs and even the cheap lager would some how taste better . :dunno:

As someone in the minority that doesn't think it was an incredible achievement, I can say that this neither popular or unpopular, but just wrong :D

Assuming you're speaking about people in general anyway, the vast majority think it was an incredible and very unlikely achievement.

No idea why they think that, we have won it loads off times in the last 125 years:thumbup:

No, for sure. The club we play footy out of on a Sunday, the old boys who go in every Sunday religiously are all sat there drinking bottles of Bud. I asked them about it once and they said we’d have a pint of Bitter anywhere else but Bob (bloke who runs the bar) has this on for a quid a bottle so be silly not to have that.

I'd love to know how someone actually believes that lol

I can't even begin to describe what a pile of fvcking shite that is!

As a former pub manager, I can guarantee you that there is no way to keep a keg of Guinness or lager better than anyone else.

You whack it in a cellar and that's it.

Even line cleaning is pretty standard and wouldn't make a difference.

Cask ales on the other hand are a completely different animal and do need taking care of.

Agree partly...from a qualified ex-cellarman > Everards/Ruddles/Fullers

Even though Pipe cleaning Quality depends a lot on the difference between the concientious & lazy/lackadaisical   cellarmam/Landlord

Poor Tapping ( First Opening the barrel & letting it sit..hard/sort plugs) can also be a problem..

Knowing your Cask,Barrel,Keg & differences thereof..

Also the difference between modern pub manager & Landlord...

BBC costume dramas, indeed costume dramas generally, are invariably tedious nothing, seemingly striving for period authenticity over interest. Cool if you like heaving bosom but of limited greater value.

I am in Guiness taste best in Dublin camp but have always wondered whether if they have actually put concrete effort in taste quality control or whether they haven't bothered in order to keep their Guiness mystique going.  Enough people drink their stuff in UK as it stands now without any need for putting the effort in quality control.

Any PR is good PR and all that.

Given the current conversation and the thread that it's in, it's probably a good time to announce... I can't stand Guiness.

Agreed, tastes like shite and it was just as bad at the Guiness factory in Dublin.

I'm not saying that all British managers are unfairly treated, but if a foreign manager had achieved what Sean Dyche has over the past 7/8 years at Burnley, they would have been offered a bigger job by now.

If a foreign manager had achieved what Dyche has, they’d have probably earned themselves a side ways move to a more fashionable club.

Guinness is nice for the occasional pint. Too heavy to drink 4-5 though.

I like Guinness and Black.

I think this is going to be more unpopular than just not liking Guinness lol
