lol Give over.

He's responsible for some of the greatest popular songs of all time, with and without Lennon.

Both incredible songwriters.

Lets be fair though, you're a cultist.

The Beatles have some of the most entrenched cultists outside of organised religion. Along with Elvis fans and Apple obsessives.

Oh yeah no doubt about it, I turned into full fan boy mode last night. I've never shied away from that tbf.

I can accept when people don't like them but when people say stuff like "McCartney isn't the musical genius he's made out to be" it is just wrong. In his prime he (and Lennon and Harrison) were unbelievably talented and highly respected musicians (and of course respect run both ways but there's a reason why some of the greatest popular musicians of all time were big Beatles fans - Brian Wilson, Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Clapton, Dylan, etc). A great time for music.

Mh, no, I don't agree with that.

That's addiction, not a cult. It's more comparable to MMO addicts (WoW, etc) - you'll find most habitual FIFA players will tell you they don't even like the game, they'll openly criticise it, tell you how shit and broken it is, that it's scripted and rigged against them and that loot boxes are a scam and all that other stuff. They just can't stop playing.

Lots of games in the 21st century are deliberately designed with dopamine trigger loops to keep people hooked in, from Fortnite to FIFA and all the free to play and subscription and lootbox products in the middle. It's all addiction, not cultism. You talk to an Apple Cultist, they'll rave about why Apple make the best product/s on the market and it'll all just be parroting the latest marketing rhetoric from whichever psychopath replaced Steve Jobs.

Fair point.

TBH though I think there's an argument to be made regarding behaviour of someone addicted to something they believe to be good for them (in that it gives them a dopamine hit) and cultism being rather similar in some cases.

But that's exactly the point, I don't think many addicts believe that their addiction is good for them.

Most FIFA addicts know that the game makes them stressed and unhappy and is costing them money. Gambling addicts, nicotine addicts, heroin addicts, alcoholics, most are either in denial (which isn't the same as believing it to be good for them) or well aware that their behaviour is self destructive.

I don't think they're brainwashed, they're just hooked.

You know more about psychology in this regard than I do tbf so I trust what you say. The point regarding denial of something being bad and praising it not being the same is especially salient

Apple fanboy obsessives are by far the worst of the groups you have mentioned. The Beatles and Elvis are subjective tastes, Apple is just pure marketing brain washing, to the point they have millions of people spending over the odds for a vastly inferior product.

People only get irritated about Apple products and the people who own them, on the internet.

The vast majority of people in real life just use an iPhone because it’s what they like and it works for them, they genuinely do not care about whatever phone the person next to them is using

But I don't consider every iPhone owner to be an Apple cultist, just as I don't consider everybody who likes Suspicious Minds or I Wanna Hold Your Hand to be one.

I think you're being somewhat naïve (or in denial yourself) if you don't think Apple cultists are an actual real phenomena.

To be fair I was probably quite close to being 1 a few years ago so you’re right I guess

That's not the case in my household. My husband was changed from a work Blackberry to an iPhone years ago. Every time he realised his iPhone did something he thought was new, my response could always be 'my Sony Android has done that for years', usually about 2. And that hasn't changed with the numerous upgrades we have both had since.

Absolutely nothing to do with opinions on the internet

When everyone seemed to be getting iPods, I went for a completely different brand of music player - iRiver.

It walked all over the iPod with already inbuilt features like radio and recorder. It also wasn't restricted to one codec and didn't need special software on your computer to carry out editing, naming files and so on.

It really did blow the iPod out the water.

As somebody said at the time though, Apple products were an example of style over substance.

Majority of sales are.

Is a BMW a better car than a Ford? They’re both a car that gets you from A to B.

Is an Amarni suit better than a Next one? They’re both clothes.

Is Waitrose food, better than Aldi? Same food, different price.

Is the food at Salt Baes place; better than having a roast at the Tony Carvery? They’re all calories.

Ultimately, half the time you’re paying for a brand name.

Saying that, I have an Apple personal phone and Samsung for work. I much prefer the iPhone. I just find it more simplistic to use.

That's the one thing I'd challenge. Aldi/Lidl ambient produce is inferior to almost every other supermarket. Their fresh stuff is always at the limit of of it's sell by/use by. That's how they keep prices down. Short term storage, rapid rotation. Bin the stuff that goes rotten after day 3, don't pay the producers for quality that can last beyond a week. Cheap shit. I buy from both but not fresh stuff I want to keep for more than a couple of days.

Waitrose food is a million miles better than Aldi and the one time I tried a Lidl it was near impossible to find any real food. Aldi has some nice products but there's too much stuff that is total garbage.

I've used Apple products since January 1986 when my dad brought home a Macintosh Plus.  I've had several Macs, ipods, ipads, iphones but never bought airpods or homespods etc though, becuase there are better out there.

I have always liked the design ethos of making products and software easy to use.  I am not a techie type, can't be arsed with playing around with settings etc, and Apple products have always done what I wanted.  I also like the way Apple creates markets - it is in many ways more of a marketing company than a technology one.  I was working for Sony when the iPod was released, and it changed everything.  Likewise the itunes store, the iPad, all in one computers etc.  They brought a panache and ease of use to these which changed the world.  I am not convinced Samsung has ever made a genuinely new market creating product, although they have undoubtedly made better ones at times, and their technology development has pushed Apple and others to better things.  Its all good!  On the other hand the Apple adverts making out that an iPad is not a computer is just silly.

Dunno.

I had an iPad which started going slow with age, then apps stopped working, etc. So I bought an Amazon Tablet, £30 I think on Black Friday one year, and the speed and battery is ridiculously poor compared to what my iPad was. If I want to watch something now I'm turning it on 10 minutes in advance.

If I could justify a new iPad then I would get one. Far much better, far much than just "style".
