Rules changed this year I think which said you don’t get a red for certain fouls in the box now if a penalty is awarded*

 

*someone clarify this for me but I’m sure I read it somewhere at the start of the season

ITS NOT A RED BECAUSE THE REF JUDGED IT WAS A GENUINE ATTEMPT TO GET TO THE BALL.

Think if the ref judges it as a genuine attempt for the ball he can only give yellow... like I say I’m waiting for some to pull up the exact rules by sure it’s what I read at the start of the season

That rule change was that "accidental fouls" that deny a direct goal scoring opportunity in the box will be downgraded to a yellow card. 

 

I'm not sure how diving in to take someone's legs can be called accidental really. 

 

I assume Oliver's interpretation is that because Jones is trying to win the ball as opposed to simply just tripping him up then the foul is accidental.

 

I think that's a poor interpretation of the rule tbh.
