Izzy Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 At least 27 dead http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-us-canada-41880700
StanSP Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 if Americans had guns, this would have been prevented....
RobHawk Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 Don't get me wrong, I have all the sympathy for the families affected, but seriously America, as a nation, you deserve every gun tragedy you get
Buce Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 That’s 307 mass shootings (defined as four or more victims) in the last 309 days. One a day. Let that sink in.
nnfox Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 So sad. Just an awful situation with no clear resolution. Weird though how, for me at least, the most surprising thing is that it has happened on a Sunday morning. In church.

It's the busiest time for most effect for a gunman...
RODNEY FERNIO Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 There are more gun homicides per year in Texas alone than the TOTAL number of homicides per year in England. Gun murders in England are usually around 40-50 per year , in Texas it can be as much as 800 and Texas is by no means the worst State. This is one of the reasons I've never visited the land of the free.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 Fox news reporting this as the deadliest (actually, the website says deadlist) shooting in modern U.S. history. Erm... Las Vegas was how long ago? Maybe this is why it keeps happening? Americans only have a two-three week memory span?

This is one of the reasons I've never visited the land of the free. I was in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago. Despite the mind-boggling numbers involved, talking to residents there, you get a different perspective on the issue. Gun culture is so ingrained in their heritage, it is highly unlikely that any meaningful laws will be passed anytime soon. Americans view the world very differently to us. It is very difficult for us to understand their apparent tolerance to such terrible events.
katieakita Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 Sad tragic awful news but the term United States is an anomaly with a reasonable argument that they are 50 individual countries united to a degree. Met enough Americans that look on the right to carry weapons like we expect running water in houses convinced that by having weapons it makes them safer.

a_k_b Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 #standard .... is this type of thing even news on anymore? Happens so often
Charl91 Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 If there's one view that unites almost all of Foxestalk, it's that America's stance on guns is batshit crazy.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 5 November 2017 Posted 5 November 2017 Not even lead story on 10 o'clock News. Says it all, sadly.

Wait until they (probably) start to invade North Korea and these incidents still carry on during the raids, the latter would hardly feature on the news..
spacemunky Posted 6 November 2017 Posted 6 November 2017 Sad to hear this, even though it's just a normal day in the USA. I'm about an hour north of the US border(and thankful for that). Only guns I've ever seen in person were those in the holsters of police officers. Thankful for that too.
lgfualol Posted 6 November 2017 Posted 6 November 2017 It's been said a million times, but if they didn't change gun laws after Sandy Hook then there's no chance they will ever fix it. Too many Americans believe that gun laws = no guns allowed and that's that.
Webbo Posted 6 November 2017 Posted 6 November 2017 There are 100s of millions of guns in the US and a majority of the people don't want to give them up. America couldn't change the gun laws if it wanted to.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 6 November 2017 Posted 6 November 2017 I'm sure I've read a suggestion that the perpetrator may have been shot by a member of the public rather than law enforcement. If so that's the first time I can remember an incident where there's actually been one of the 'good guys with guns' they go on about. Perhaps it was one of the armed toddlers that usually shoot their siblings

Perhaps it was one of the armed toddlers that usually shoot their siblings BBC reported that an armed member of the public shot at him and chased him off, they weren't certain whether he actually shot him and contributed to his death or just scared him off. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-41880511 "As the gunman left the church, a local citizen grabbed his own rifle and began shooting at the suspect, who then dropped his weapon and fled in a vehicle. The citizen pursued the suspect, who eventually drove off the road and crashed his car at the Guadalupe County line." This will probably serve as enough justification that guns are good.

Like Obama said, they didn't ban cars when people were dying all the time - they just added seat-belts. They wont do anything similar though, stricter gun laws mean less profit for the big boys and whatnot.
