The thread makes a good point and those who say otherwise have very short term memories.

There are some worrying similarities between us and Saints last year. A difference is that as yet we haven't sacked Puel and if he is given more time and money than he had there, the outcome may be different.

Not quite sure if this a for or against Puel post. Similarities between last year being 8th position? Without Puel and not really knowing how they have invested the Saints have clearly not improved and face a real battle to stay up. Not sure what they hoped for there is a top 6 and clubs like Everton and ourselves who believe  they are just outside that group. Too much chopping and changes seldom works and though Puel was not top on many people s wish list the club has avoided some really scary options from some betting lists as would be managers. He has had a tinker here but surely deserves the chance to bring in his own players as we rebuild and move on

West Brom being shite doesn’t change our previous 5 results, but I do think the hysteria on here was a massive overreaction. Puel hasn’t completely convinced yet but he has shown how good we can be when he gets it right and the limitations when things don’t click. I just think we need to judge him at the end of the season. We have limitations and a key injury or strop can disrupt things. An injury free run in with no distractions will show better where we are. Then we could lose key players and have to start again.

Let’s hope they go down and Puel raids them for a few of their decent players. Wouldn’t mind Cedric here , Ward Prowse and Redmond too.

I’d take Bertrand also. Though I can see a couple of the top 6 clubs being interested in him.

Both their full-backs. Redmond is bobbins, I'd stay clear of him.

.....you've just missed the point completely. Congratulations.

I think your thread misses whatever point it would have had, if it had one.

Eurgh, no, not really. Ok, my choice of title was incredibly ill judged (as it didn't reflect the point I was trying to make), but I'm tired of people with the reading comprehension level of a mollusc mis-representing my views. So let's clear a few things up.

I never once said Southampton are having a good season. Nor did I say that they'd much rather be in our situation, because clearly they're in a incredibly shit position. How Southampton are faring at the moment isn't particularly relevant to the point I was making, however. I also don't hate Puel, want him sacked, etc. - I actually like that he's trying to transition us to a passing style, even if it's not quite there yet. The only point I was making (which wasn't "herp derp you fink dey soufampton r doin gud llolz") is that actually many of the points that Southampton fans were making about Puel at the start of his tenure seemed to be coming to fruition.

The Southampton fans view was that even though they finished in 8th, the football had become boring towards the end, with many poor results and a severe lack of goals at home. Not only that, but the 8th position flattered to deceive a little; while it's undoubtedly a strong finishing position, the gap between 8th and the relegation zone was so tight that just a couple of poor results would make a team drop down the table significantly. So while as Leicester fans, many of us were saying Why on earth would you sack a manager who finished in 8th - because on the surface it appeared to be a crazy decision - for a lot of Saints fans it was clearly the right decision, in the same way that us letting Ranieri go was the correct decision. Now they obviously didn't appoint a good manager as a replacement. Massive error there, but that doesn't mean that the choice to get rid was necessarily the wrong one.

So on to us; while Leicester fans derided the Saints point of view ("Boring and defensive? We scored 4 goals vs Saints, the idiots") a lot of what they said has certainly rung true over the past 10 games or so. The football changed from exciting to bland, almost clueless passing for the sake of passing. Transition from defence to attack was laborious, goals dried up, and teams only needed score one goal and then shut up shop. Results were poor against teams that we should certainly be getting results against. It was only a few moments of individual brilliance that gained us a few points. It certainly seemed that a lot of their criticisms about Puel's style/management seemed to be ringing true here as well, and I thought it was odd to see the similarities between Leicester 2018 and Saints 2017, which was the point I was trying to make.

Now, obviously we had a great win today (and people are out in force saying  "I told you so" - funny how one game suddenly means that the 10 preceding it mean nothing). But while that's a positive result, one win against the team miles adrift at the bottom of the table (who capitulated once we got the second goal) doesn't prove anything yet. If we can keep that up though, then brilliant.

I will never forget how impressive we looked pre Mahrez Man City saga under Puel and how things changed overnight. We’re on the up and I’m confident he’ll build the right squad in the coming windows.

With Mahrez back and playing we look a different side...

The points are there. If you disagree, that's fair enough; it's a football forum, people have different opinions. If you don't understand them, then I'm sorry, I can't help you there. ;)

Most of them seem to be saying appointing Pellegerino was the bad decision and not sacking Puel, I see where they're coming from but he probably should have been given the summer to get some players in and have a go at the new season.

Perhaps puel was the wrong man for Southampton.

Established premier league club they probably expected better than safe/boring football.

Leicester feared relegation.

Safe/boring a lot more appealing right now.

Southampton will be relegated this season , now that’s funny lol

Imagine if Southampton AND Stoke would get relegated in May (or even earlier).

It would make for some great entertainment, especially when you remember the 2007-2008 season.

Stoke for taking the mick out of us after the 0-0 draw and Southampton for staying in the Championship at the skin of their teeth, thanks to that 3-2 home win against the Blades, which also condemned us to League One.

In all honesty it is the scourge of football to blame the manager.  If we had the likes of a Ronaldo or a Messi I certainly could see blaming a manager.  But players have highs and lows.  It just happens.  A good manager knows how to instill confidence as well as good tactics.  I think Puel is tactically sound, that was probably why I was against poor Shakey coming on.  Anyway we’ll see how this works out.  If Puel can get this machine working again I certainly wouldn’t mind him staying on.

By the way, Puel was able to make a relatively poor team play well (Southampton).  I feel he has the abilities to get us out of slumps.  The issue right now is not so much Puel, but some of our players.  We need to strengthen our defense now...not later.
