smr Posted 4 August 2018 Posted 4 August 2018 Some of the posts on here... I think some people forget how much of a mental game football is. From one club to the next it can make a significant difference to your game in terms of how comfortable and confident you are.. confidence means being at the best of your ability. Maybe here he can get that here. 2

La-li-lu-le-lo Posted 4 August 2018 Posted 4 August 2018 Pretty embarrassing this thread is.... the lad clearly has a degree of ability, or he wouldn’t be playing for Monaco in the first place. Puel has an excellent record at helping young/lost talents, maybe this softly spoken approach is what players like him need..... as someone has so rightly pointed out the game these days is more mental than it is physical, this is the opportunity he needs to get his career back on track.... the club clearly want a big signing, which will come but if Puel thinks this lad can add to the club then give him a chance... it’s almost like half of you want him to come and fail just so you can all ring up post match saying “I told you so”.... get behind the ****ing lad and welcome him with open arms. First impressions mean everything, and I’d imagine he’s been suffocated at a club with the arrogance of Monaco, we’re not that and could be a perfect stage for him to flourish if he’s made to feel welcome. 4

I like the cut of your jib, my worry for the last few years is we are one of the worst clubs for giving new players a chance though. So many of our signings have been viewed a failure but it's been extremely difficult for them to make an impact. That is slowly changing as the title winning side is disintegrating, but it's been a long while since we've had a player allowed to take time to settle. We've got to hope Puel instantly gets results, otherwise he'll be gone and then you've got a player who has spent the last few years not really performing with a suspect attitude and temperament in a new country. Add all that together and it's easy to see another £20-30m down the pan.

I think Maddison was signed to largely replace the creativity loss of Mahrez. Why do we think that we have to go like for like in that wide area? Maddison will hopefully link up play between midfield and Vardy/Nacho, something we failed to do last season from central areas. I think this potential new signing will add again some more creativity to open up defences, but we can't afford to put our eggs in one basket like last year. Gray/Albrighton/Diabate will also be more than capable to contribute with assists and goals. Surely that's exactly what we are doing this season again, by just having Maddison for that genuine creative threat. We lacked an additional creative player even when Mahrez was here, so to lose him and only replace him with one top player in Maddison, is not enough. I'm also not as confident as you that Diabate, Gray and Albrighton will be able to create enough goals an assists. We really need a player of Maddison's ability to come in on the right. Lessens the burden on him and also makes us far less dependent on one player again. 1

All the negative comments around him is a mix between real statements and PURE HATE. At Lyon/Monaco he was the lad that all the good things he can do in a game could be ignored for 1 bad touch/pass etc. But yeah, could be the least algerian player i rate, not even 1/10 of Mahrez's talent. Can be described as a " clumsy skillful player ". However he has an amazing shooting quality/long range passes. Super sub at best, but possibly a starter... he's a very weird footballer to say, clearly not good enough but some days my god can't recognize him haha. Quite a unique description. Thanks for the info @Demoox. Sounds like this could be an interesting watch, a comical watch or both. It is unusual to see such universally poor reviews for one player, let's hope Leicester City is where he finally produces.

Although I agree with your sentiments I kind of get the impression that we've just thrown loads at the wall and then waited to see what sticks. I think the majority of posters get excited about transfers and generally do welcome players with open arms, something doesn't sit right with this transfer though.... If he does sign I'll back him 100% of course. Edited 4 August 2018 by Collymore

So I don’t understand why we would sign him as a squad player what we need is a first team winger I’m with you - I can only imagine it’s because CP has seen something and believes he can get the best out of him. May also because there’s virtually no value in the market at the minute and he feels it’s worth the risk at the right price

We must have known for a year (the very least 6 months) that Mahrez will need to be replaced and it's starting to feel like panic stations already... Clearly our other options and choices have come to nothing and we're left asking the manager if he knows anyone we can buy. I just can't believe we've not thought about it or planned for it, something screwed us up and we're paying the price. Been doing reading on the lad and the general feeling is that he's got a lot of natural talent, but getting that out of him on anything like a regular basis has been a nigh on impossible job for clubs. I'm holding out hope that Puel can get the best out of him, like he did with Ben Arfa and to be honest I said last season at times (before his wobbly) Mahrez was playing som of the best football I'd seen him play. So maybe Puel just has a way of coaxing the best out of that sort of player. ** crosses fingers and prays. 2

Ian Nacho Posted 4 August 2018 Posted 4 August 2018 Why are people moaning about the price of this guy when he's done it before. People moaned far less when we paid about the same figure for at the time Liverpool's fourth choice keeper.
Guest the fox Posted 4 August 2018 Posted 4 August 2018 He's to Mahrez what Yamcha is to Goku. But seriously, He has the ability to be a quality PL player.
ARM1968 Posted 4 August 2018 Posted 4 August 2018 (edited) No he doesn’t. Incidebtally if im wrong about this guy I’ll hold my hands up and say so. Unfortunately everything about him suggests he will make zero impact here. Those who have watched him play, the fans at the clubs he’s been at, even our Algerian contingent, almost to a man/woman, say that he is crap. And all this, well Puel got the best out of Ben Arfa, big deal. He needs to get the best out of the majority of his players, that’s why he’s there. Edited 4 August 2018 by ARM1968
RowlattsFox Posted 4 August 2018 Posted 4 August 2018 I miss the days when we had to wait to find out that a new signing was shit. Now we know in advance.

So many factors that can affect a player new club, country, league, manager etc so time will tell but once he puts the blue on we get behind him 1
Popular Post ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 4 August 2018 Popular Post Posted 4 August 2018 (edited) This is how I see Ghezzal turning out. He'll have an unbelievable game at Old Trafford; everyone will be creaming themselves that we've got a better player than Riyad. A few poor games later we'll realise that he's actually the second coming of Zsolt Laczko. We continue to slide down the table. Puel gets the boot before Xmas. We employ Pardew as a replacement who then loses his first 4 games. Vardy gets pissed off with Ghezzal being a lazy diva in training and lays a Red Bull and cocaine fuelled headbutt on him, breaking his jaw. Ghezzal sues the club and we are forced to sell Maguire for an undisclosed fee on January deadline day to balance the books. Ghezzal walks out on his contract to join a bigger club - Brighton. Vardy gets an instant ban and 12 months inside for ABH. Last day of the season Ghezzal scores a last minute winner (assisted by Jahanbaksh) for the Seagulls, sending us down to the Championship. The owners are seen leaving on their helicopter shortly before the club announces it has gone into liquidation and folds completely. Everyone blames Richie Wellens. The stadium is knocked down and redeveloped into flats. Andy King refuses to leave and buys flat no.10 with Bernie as a lodger. Joachim and Iwan Roberts also buy a flat each. Claude Puel is given the PSG job and makes Ghezzal his first signing. Ghezzal goes on to displace Neymar from the team and wins 3 consecutive Ballon d'Or's.
