Did Maddison look as though he was going over a bit too easily last night?  Was only watching online, but one incident in particular in their box looked very like a dive.

Thats how it is these days any player will go down if they have the chance whether you agree with it or not

I agree. And I wonder whether footballers these days are actually encouraged, coached and trained to do this.

Anyone in the championship will tell you that he does go over too easily.

If not managers could easily stop it if they wanted to.

The fact managers don't stop it suggests that they condone it.

Unless clubs and players are punished more severely for simulation then I can only see it getting worse.

Yes, but that's modern football for you, unfortunately. I don't like it, or agree with it. But if that's his flaw, then I'll have to accept it.

Two words. Riyad Mahrez.

What about him?

Had an occasional habit of staying down after a slightly heavy challenge to make a meal out of it, usually when he was having a bad game anyway to be fair.

But if you're going to claim he's a frequent diver you're having a laugh.

I wouldn't say he's quite in the Hazard / Messi school of getting fouled, getting back up and getting on with it but nor does he frequently simulate. I get the impression that now he's forced his way out of the club, there's going to be an especially salty corny of foxestalk rewriting history to pick as much fault with the guy as possible.

But actual diver? Behave.

The only player "raised" (for want of a better word) by Pearson that had a habit of genuine simulation was Knocky and I don't think it's a coincidence that Nigel got rid.

Think Pearson cultivated a solid attitude of hard work and honesty amongst his players and Riyad is one of them, did bags more running around and tackling than he's ever given credit for.

Even Vardy, king of drawing a foul, very rarely actually dives. You could count his acts of simulation during his tenure at the club on one hand. As with Hazard, he definitely knows how to tempt a defender in to bringing him down but if they're too impulsive and reckless to know that reputation and show restraint then it's on them.

Yeah what a twat he showed himself to be.

FIFA need to stop this plague in its tracks. It will repel people from wanting to watch and makes the whole game a laughing stock.

Or Start a new chant to this. Players will soon get the message if 10000 fans were doing it. ( the circus bt)

There will unfortunately always be players going down too easily under contact. Plain dives are a different matter entirely though.

At my age, I don't pay as much attention to European football as I used to, is the UK the only place where retrospective bans are given for simulation? I'm certainly sure all other leagues don't do it and that's probably the only way to stamp it out.

That's easy to apply for the cash rich premier league though, with 100's of camera angles to look at. I'm not sure Romanian or Serbian clubs (I've plucked those two countries out of the air but you know the point I'm making) or associations have the kind of cash to bandy around to make it possible everywhere. That's not to mention other far flung areas of the World.

I have a little more sympathy on the occasions players expect heavy contact. It's a split second decision and it must rankle with forwards the amount of times they are caught by a defender and get nothing. I can see why it happens.

In a nutshell, creative players are targets, as Maddison probably is and non creative players are really there to stop them.

The more obvious falling over when a defender isn't really even jostling or challenging is a total blight on the game.

I don't think it's cheating if a player goes down provided there is contact.

You could get a right hander from Anthony Joshua and stay on your feet and still not get a penalty. As long as it's not simulated with zero contact then that's fine in my book.

Players who play attacking exciting football get hacked all game long so I think players go over a little easily to deter the cruder tackles.
