murphy Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 I'd say we won the window 5-2. Five very good additions, four very highly rated defenders and in Maddison, a player that really excites me. Then there is Ward - paid far too much and Ghezzal which to me is mystifying. As many have said, a winger short of being a superb window. So why didn't we do it?
tsintskaro Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 (edited) I was waiting for solid winger, but it looks like Puel does not need one on paper all these deals look great, now its time to be great on pitch Edited 9 August 2018 by tsintskaro
5waller5 Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 Great window ..... Has made me excited for the season and has given me some faith in Puel!
ARM1968 Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 Could easily make big money on all signings except Ghezza. Hopefully he won’t be as bad as feared - although that should be easy.

No, dont be silly, but we are short on attacking areas! If slim goes we have Vardy, Nacho and Oki at striker options one or two injuries we are looking very thin. Attacking midfeild we got Diabates, Gray, Maddison, Albrighton and Ghezzal. Gary and Diabates have struggled to make impact at PL. 1
lcfcsnow Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 5/7 are defensive signings, albeit good ones. Considering we lost our main creative player I'd have thought one more attacking player would have been essential. Hopefully it works.

EnderbyFox Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 (edited) Love that we appear to have solved the Morgan/Simpson issue, also that we’ve signed a proper 10. Echo what others have said about our wide positions though, big big season needed from Gray. Think we will also need to invest in a Striker in January, tough burden to rely on just Iheanacho and Vardy all season, especially if one of them gets injured. Edited 9 August 2018 by EnderbyFox

Silva Fox Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 Very happy with the defensive improvements which were always the priority and keeping hold of Maguire & Schmeichel is fantastic news. Just can't help feeling a tad disappointed that we didn't show more ambition in improving our attacking options given some of the names we were linked with.
murphy Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 Has anyone done the maths? I make it about £20m net spend but sources for fees vary so much. Hopefully more to come from outgoings.
Harry96 Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 If got another attacking option in would’ve been a perfect window but still a very good window
HighPeakFox Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 Perhaps our attack will work better now we have such excellence at the back...

Seems like the focus was on sorting out our ageing defence and after shipping 60 goals last year, that makes sense.
AjcW Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 It was so important to address the defence. We might have lost our most creative player but you have to remember Vardy scored 20 league goals last season, no team with a striker that powerful should be finishing below Burnley, simple fact is we conceded far too many goals! 3
Gevans_97 Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 9/10 for me. Seems like for once we've actually signed players in the positions where we need to strengthen. Some superb signings - Maddison and Pereira particularly impressive for me in pre-season. Maddison looks like the no.10 we've always been missing. Solid defensive signings in Evans and Soyuncu, building towards the future with Benkovic. Ward in to fight for the GK position but I can't see anyone but Kasper being our No.1 this year. Who knows about Ghezzal - he could surprise a few. And Vardy signing a new contract? Icing on the cake. Great window. 1

Exactly. We'll score enough goals this season, and now hopefully we'll keep out a lot more!
Livid Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 If anyone has seen Draft Day, John Rudkin = Kevin Costner right now. I’m happy with what we’ve brought in, Youth and Quality. 8.5/10 of course it all got totally awry in the next few months.

It's not the craziest thing ever to think this. It's true that in a lot of games last season we only started playing when we went behind, but in theory if we are really sure we are good defensively then we can afford to be more courageous going forwards. I would personally say that although we lost a world class player, in terms of overall team and squad balance it's potentially as good as we have ever seen. We can literally name a first 11 now where everyone is pretty good technically. Also the old adage of "goals win games, but defences win Titles" is true. When we won the title, I'd argue that the sequence where we won four games 1-0, and the next 2-0 was the moment we did it. We just grinded out result after result despite having all of the pressure on us. It wasn't nearly as exciting or high quality as earlier in that year but damn was it effective and Ranieri has to take amazing credit for creating a Leicester city side that lost just 3 league games and just 5 competitive games in an entire season. That's what wins you trophies - being hard to beat. Edited 9 August 2018 by StriderHiryu 7
Fox 4 Life Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 All things considered a very good window. Vardy signing a new deal is the icing on the cake. I feel Ghezzal might be a big surprise, was very good at Lyon and didn't quite do it for Monaco but fresh start and under Puel he could be a gem. Maddison looks the best singing for me though, oozes class. 1
CollinsLCFC Posted 9 August 2018 Posted 9 August 2018 Can't believe we didn't sign Mbappe. But other than that, can't complain! Rudkin in?
