we really have lost are way in the goal scoring department, and i think this comes down to 2 things, mendy and ndidi are great in the middle breaking up attacks but they dont do much to prompt goal scoring chances. the 2nd thing is we need another decent stricker, in the next window , or we can forget a top 8 finish.

I think we shouldn’t get our hopes up for that anyway

From the brief glimpses of the match that I got between stream freezes, it looked like Soyuncu was decent, and Diabate was playing better than Gray. Is that right?

Agree about Soyuncu but Gray and Diabate were both good in moments. At times Gray looked our most likely threat.

I meant you know Morgan starts regardless ?

Pipes was talking about this last night on RL.  He was saying how can Puel bring in Caglar for Morgan when Morgan has been OK of late.  Yet last season Puel binned off Drago for Morgan when he returned from injury, despite the former performing well.

Given the alleged power Wes has, Soyuncu will not get selected and we will revert to the slow tippy-tappy side-ways and backward passing once more.  I just hope that next season we will see a pairing of Benko and Soyuncu following Harry's expected move.

There were some solid performances but that was countered by a lot of sloppy play.

The pre match pint and burger were pretty good though.

As a game very forgettable.

....the only problem is we are just as ineffective with them as we were tonight. Goals in open play should be they mainstay of any club, we seem to circumnavigate that aspect of our play!!!

Already proven to be fake news, we aren't much worse than anyone else midtable in terms of open play goals. We were only one or two below Spurs from open play as well.

Thats not to say there isn't room for improvement.

I absolutely agree with this. we looked like a lower league team in this game. If we continue to play with 4 or 5 also-rans we will not progress

The team contained 7 or 8 players that normally wouldn't be playing, let's not forget that.

2 of which were the full backs who are vital to the system puel plays ....... they need to be energetic, getting up and down ......bit of an eye opener should either Ricardo or chilly get injured ........ that’s when plan B comes into sharp focus ......

Ward has been unbelievably impressive in these cup games so far. Nothing wrong with the way Kasper has played, but is it time to think about needing to get Ward some looks in league matches?

It was a vulgar watch, thankfully the stream I found only afforded me the horror from around 25 mins onwards. We looked marginally better at times in the 2nd half when Okazaki and Mendy came on to change things up. Gray got a bit more involved but we still created the square root of a lump of wet bog roll.

The individual or group responsible for going straight to penalties after the 90 mins is a genius as well, another 30 mins of that could have been a danger to life.

Puel's teams come with a health warning and it's not the cause of excitement.

Soyuncu looked promising and Danny Ward is a cult hero, those black gloves look like they're made of super glue. I'd be confident he'll be an able understudy to Kasper should we need him and it feels a shame he's only able to play every few months. Schmeichel is prone to injuries though so his time may come soon.

What will we be in store for on Saturday? Can we see some decent football? Some chances created from Maddison and Gray? and more than a token goal scored after going behind? It feels so long since seeing any of the above at home.

Im surprised i havent heard any praise towards Evans in this thread, I thought he was our best player on the night!. Was an absolute rock lastnight, very calm and collected with control of the ball and stopping most (limited) threats coming our way. Unsure how he would prove against a top 5 team but with a shit team performance we displayed, he held us together at the back with Soya.

Diabate im just not convinced that he has what it takes i dont see 1st team quality in him and he makes me nevous on the ball some reason. The biggest waste has got to be Silva, How much time / chances does a international/ ex sporting captain need? He provides no stability in midfield and i wasnt convinced yet again.

Gray was our second best i thought on the night, He puts so much effort and is looking fierce when attacking, I think his shot taking has improved and i almost love how he tried to curl that shot in towards the end of the second half. Hes come a long way from that sulking little bitch a few seasons ago.

Evans seems a far calmer head than Morgan and Maguire, I think we look defensively more sound with him in the team.

It’s easy to be buoyant when winning, it’s also easy to support when your team is a shower of shite and you know it.

What I think is making it harder to watch for some fans is the mediocrity of the football when we could arguably be doing so much better and not setting up to play in styles that are simply producing such dismal performances.

Its not about hate or not supporting the team it’s just for some people difficult to watch such a turgid style of play. Let them have their opinion and vote with their feet if they want to.

For me Puel needs the players and investment to play his style or he needs to go. I don’t believe the team are happy with the style and approach or spending time in a team in transition - If they are not getting results and satisfaction from their football they will want to leave sooner or later.

Some of our first team are already tired and very frustrated with the current footballing approach.
