Leicester (p)0-0 Southampton Post Match Thread - 6-5 Win on Penalties

Good to win on penalties but a few concerns. Has vardy lost his goal scoring and nicking a penalty touch, where’s the quick play and exciting football gone, what happened to playing football on the floor. Plus, do we really have to play Man City, can’t we just say that’s enough, we’ve won all our games and we’re not playing anymore

Just got back in - tonight was one of those where had it been a league game and we'd been held 0-0 at home to Southampton I'd have been a bit down but any win in knockout football is a good win so happy days. I thought we were decent enough but nothing really to write home about. Soyuncu had a good game, Ward did well again and everyone put a decent shift in.

Not a criticism of Fuchs and Simpson as they played okay, but I think tonight showed how reliant we are on Chilwell (especially) and Ricardo to add an attacking edge. We spread the play around the box, probing the defence and it's usually when one of the fullbacks gets involved on the overlap or in the build up that we work an opening. I felt we missed that tonight.

Another lucky day for Puel

Terrible team performance.

Can't argue with a win though

There's definitely something in this.

It's not that long ago we'd have all been delighted with mid table PL and the 1/4 final of a cup.

How times have changed....

There's a lot of this but the thing is that we don't have the team that meets the (actual) expectations. Not for the next couple of seasons at least.

We're bound to see some very good games coupled to utter dross until we go through this transitional phase one way or another. Puel is a necessary "evil". He's building for the future and will certainly not reap what he's actually sown.

Any highlights of this anywhere?

The highlights are so bad that even the ones on Sky Sports cut off after the second penalty that Albrighton takes. Cameraman probably fell asleep!

Be honest with yourselves - that was absolutely abysmal. We were awful. Second best for me, incredibly fortunate to not concede.

In the cup you obviously take any kind of progression, and Danny Ward once again takes the bulk of the credit, but that was a really bad performance against a poor side - we barely created a single chance all game, our open play chance creation is abysmal.

I want to see the positives but I think that's one big paper over the cracks job tonight sadly. I cannot see us winning again for a while.

....the only problem is we are just as ineffective with them as we were tonight. Goals in open play should be they mainstay of any club, we seem to circumnavigate that aspect of our play!!!

we got the result I think that's all that matters

Yeah why worry about the performance or lack goal scoring, if we can just get Penalties added to the Premier league games we can fly up the table in no time

11 goals from 18 this season are from open play (including counters of course).

I absolutely agree with this. we looked like a lower league team in this game. If we continue to play with 4 or 5 also-rans we will not progress

Should he start on Saturday then to continue to build on this? or should we drop him for Morgan whose contract is up soon?

You know the answer to that one
