Popular Post mazarron fox Posted 3 January 2019 Popular Post Share Posted 3 January 2019 I have been following this great club since 1967 when I was 10 . Like a lot of our senior and not so senior fans I have seen a massive special up some ups around the new millennium and some cup runs thrown in for good measure. I have also seen a lot of the other end of the stick huge disappointments and shite football from various managers in various leagues over the years. So please forgive me if I think calling for the managers head when we sit 7th in the league is a touch idiotic in the great scheme of things. Maybe some of our more recent fans would like us to return and sample wet windy Saturdays and midweek games at the likes of Tranmere, Cambridge, Oxford etc because changing a manager every 6 months will lead us back there eventually.

That may well be true. But he's not in France now and the football culture is very different. I only report what I'm told from various sources. If he can work on his weaknesses and keep the team winning then you won't get complaints from me.

Popular Post Stadt Posted 3 January 2019 Popular Post Share Posted 3 January 2019 Thinking about our finances and I think Puel’s job is very secure as a result, doesn’t seem particularly demanding is happy enough to work with younger and crucially, cheaper players. Fuchs, Morgan, Benalouane, Simpson, King, Iborra, Silva and Slimani will all be on a fair whack and they’re players that we can’t immediately move on - when we sell or their contracts expire we’re in a much better financial position. With big infrastructure commitments on the horizon steady but uninspiring progress is actually quite intelligent from the club for once.

SheppyFox Posted 3 January 2019 Share Posted 3 January 2019 Southampton’s just an academy of development for everyone else. Puel did brilliantly to achieve 8th with that horrific squad. Wonder how many of their fans would take him back now?
Popular Post Nickfosse Posted 3 January 2019 Popular Post Share Posted 3 January 2019 2 hours ago, Wdywd said: Southampton fans trying to blame Puel for their "demise" when he finished 8th and the next two managers took over the car and drove it straight off a cliff is bold The Southampton situation with Puel is fascinating. Having sold 3 of their best and most effective players, he took them to 8th place and a cup final in a year when they also competed in the Europa league till the late autumn. Given the effect that competition has had on several team’s performances, but most notably Burnley this year you would imagine that might be a perfectly respectable first season in charge. Add in that not only did they reach the League Cup Final against Manchester United but according to most neutral observers outplayed them, and not forgetting they defeated the great Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool over a two legged Semifinal you would imagine they’d be licking their lips awaiting for the next season. It would appear that a run of games towards the end of the season with few goals and uninspiring performances did for him. And yet on closer analysis their chances created remained high and they missed several penalties. They conceded very few goals. Some kinder observers simply felt that after such a long season of over 50 games they just ran out of steam. To be fair, some Southampton fans now say they wish they’d have given him an end of season, pre-season and summer transfer window to see how things developed. Others were so vociferous in their Puel Out rhetoric that they simply cannot to this day bring themselves to acknowledge that they might have been wrong (sound familiar?) and have created a convenient narrative that he was the manager who set then on their way to the problems they’ve had these past 18 months.
