11 games to go - we’re 8 points off 7th and relegation respectively.

While I personally don’t believe we’re in danger of relegation (just a couple of wins would see us safe), the way I see it the club have 3 options with the manager’s position:

1. Hire an interim manager until the summer.

2. Retain Stowell and Sadler for the rest of the season.

3. Hire a permanent manager now.

4. Re-hire Pearson for a laugh.

What should we do?

Very simple for me we need an interim manager for the rest of the season to give time to look and get the permanent manager appointed for the preseason and transfer window opening

I don't get the interim solution. Why pay someone to get us nowhere when we can keep Stowell on (who I assume is getting the same pay as before)?

Keep Stowell/Sadler until the end of this season, cheap and comfortable. Then hire a permanent to start June.

If we can get the manager we really want there's no point in going for an interim, if they're not available then yeah an interim but that could be Stowell or someone else but not just anyone else just for the sake of it.

I'd

Interim would be stupid because if they end up going on an amazing run we'll have to retain them even if that wasn't the plan. We're not going down, so we'd just be wasting money and the club could be giving themselves a potential headache if they actually end up killing it for the rest of the season.

I fear with an interim doing well we could fall into the same trap we had with Shakespeare.

Valid point. But if we go down the interim route make it clear to FT that it is only interim even if the chosen one records 11 wins.

Forget the interim rubbish, we have to get a permanent position sorted and go forward from there. We're still 8 points short of what Ranieri saw as safety i.e. 40 points. That should concentrate the mind.

Not get relegated would be nice.

I'm looking over our shoulder at the minute. Really tough run in and we've lost at home to relegation threatened Cardiff and Southampton in recent weeks. Need to beat Brighton tomorrow or it becomes a concern.

This!

Get the permanent choice in ASAP and let him see what's needed for next season!

If we can't get a manager we want then we wait. There's no urgent need to make a long-term appointment.

Agreed, target the manager we want and make sure we get him in the summer if we have to.

If it's Brendan Rodgers then he'll be hard to get here before the summer especially as he could do a treble treble in his three years at Celtic.

Just make sure we get the right man in for the summer, that is all.

Everyone saying we can't go down, we are in horrific form and could easily carry on losing.

Was Sid James and Hattie Jacques in that one?

I'd be happy with Appleton until the end of the season. We're not going to get what we want until the summer, so why rush into a half-arsed appointment?

Puel taking over Leicester in the relegation zone is a myth, Appleton's Leicester won at Swansea and we moved up to about 14th.

Get a new manager before the end of season rush. If they are amazing, they will move on and if naff, be moved on.

We're in a manager cycle now unfortunately because we kept giving interims the job instead of chasing the person we want.

It may not be the best analogy I’ve ever come up with,  but I think if my MD left and the company said, that in order to save some dosh, we’re going to ask the janitor to run things for a while ........  Well, it would probably tell me I was in the wrong business for my ambition.

Same for me. I'm not against getting an interim manager in, but I don't really see the point given that they won't be here for the duration. What if they do an amazing job like Shakespeare? When we appointed Shakey I personally felt he deserved the chance because of the turnaround he made, but it quickly transpired he was out of his depth. I suppose if we really did start plummeting down the league an interim could be an option but it would take an enormous down turn to go down this season.

If we did something crazy like brought in Cambiasso in as interim coach for the last 11 games that might be interesting and fun, though I don't think even that would be a good option.

My feeling is Appleton will come back and do a good job and it will make it difficult at the end of the season to see what is done next.

Does anyone really see Mike Stowell a mediocre coach at best, really improving our league position? Outside of the new manager bounce he may get for a couple of games I'm pretty sure we'd end up with the situation that Everton had last season with Unsworth. We'd probably stay up but not by much.

It really isn't. I know what you are trying to say but this is apples and pears.
