I’m not in denial because I’m not saying he’s peak Vards. He’s clearly not and past his best which I’ve been saying in lots of posts on this thread. He’s been declining since Man City Dec 2019(when I believe he was last at peak), but that’s not to say we are going to completely the other way saying he’s finished! He’s finished as a world class striker that he was 2015-2019 but he’s still valuable and offers a lot.

He missed one chance that he did well initially in the first place to get. If he scored it, not one negative post comes in this chat, that’s the reality.

Madders and Nacho were far worse today. It was painful to see how poor they were.

He’s suffering on his finishing but his all round performances have been not bad, he was good vs Saints in the cup and vs West Brom.

I think people just compare him to his peak which he’s clearly past and anyone can see that. It’s not black or white he’s not world class or finished, there’s a middle ground and that’s what he’s currently showing.

Yeah I do agree with this, just it's hard to accept when he is ordinary and not playing like a superstar. It also highlights the flaws in his game he has always had too...

It it wasn’t for him ? Sorry but I don’t agree at all with that. He’s missed more chances then he’s created and thankfully Kel had stepped up big time. Kel is a better all around player. He got that chance tonight he buries it. Vardy missed great chances against palace. He could of cost us.

Wow.

It's not direct assists though. His movement and work rate create other chances. He does more than put the ball in the net. You play anyone else in our squad up top with Kel and he doesn't score half the chances.

He has the third biggest negative gap between xG and goals scored of any player in the PL this season - only Maupay and Firmino have been worse finishers than him this season.

That’s not about his speed or sharpness - he’s still getting in decent positions and getting one good chance per game but he’s undeniably become wasteful. In a sense I’m less worried about that as I doubt he’ll lose his ability to finish permanently, but he is going through a really prolonged rough patch and we need to accept that this could be (but isn’t necessarily) the beginning of the end.

Now that's a bit more of a sensible, rational, post. His rhythm has gone currently, but it's not, necessarily, something he cannot get back. But he is at an age when some players would be dropping down the divisions.

There were some who wanted to sell him to West Brom for £5m pre 2015. Those people will be right ..... eventually.

As they said before the game tonight on sky. Vardy is in as good a form as he ever has been if you can't see the work he does to create space and chances you need to open your eyes a little wider.

Sorry but he's nowhere near his top form. Missed far too many chances for that to be the case.

No, he's not, there has been a noticeable drop off, you are watching games with your eyes shut if you think he's as good as ever...

Vardys only chance he missed vs palace was again one where he did brilliantly to get in the position initially then dragged it wide. I think everyone can see he’s not on it, in terms of his finishing and I’m not sure why but he’s also doing some decent bits off the ball with Kel and creates space. We are a worse team without Vards if you look back at the games he wasn’t playing in backs that argument.

I agree it’s hard to see him miss a lot and not be that brutal finisher he was, but then it can also be a case to appreciate how bloody clinical he was and that we took for granted the level of striker he was. He still offers a lot and we do control games.

Lets just say this, he’s missed 6 games as a starter this season and did we look more threatening without him?

Loss vs Villa(barely threatened)

Loss vs Leeds(barely threatened)

Drew vs Wolves(barely threatened until he came on and arguably should of scored)

Drew vs Everton(again barely threatened and knicked a draw from a Pickford mistake)

Won vs Arsenal(Again barely created and he changed the game)

The only anomaly without him was a convincing 2-0 win at Fulham.

I still think we are a better team with him but I also agree he’s not the world class striker he was. There’s balance in the argument for me.

It’s not helping him playing every game,  it’s obvious he is not at his best because of this and I also thought that chance tonight was harder than it looked.

People love to jump on players who have served us well. This thread is an example of this to a tee. Same with Albrighton and same with Morgan and King.

Tbf Andy king was bobbins for about 5 seasons before he left. Albrighton a good trier and Morgan just got old. Same with Vardy, it’s not like I’m enjoying Vardy being crap. He’s still my favourite Leicester player of all time. Deserve a statue, it’s just coming to the end that’s all.

You say that about King but he gave everything he had for us. Scored some important goals too. I’d honestly have him in my team rather than Maddison. Everyday would have a trier rather than a showboater.

For me I tried to prepare myself for Vardy's inevitable decline to be more graceful like a Cavani or a Lewondowski. Yes he won't reach top speeds anymore or have the stamina to hassle defenders and keepers all game long BUT I did not think he would lose his finishing & touch. That part of his deadly game is missing right now. We know it, Brendan knows it and Vards sure as hell knows it! Whether he will get it back we have to wait and see. However the longer it goes on the more worrying it is as he is still our main

man up front. I know Nachos has risen to the top recently and long may his rise continue but Vardy is still our no.1 guy. The season is not over yet so he has time just needs the motivation and a little luck to get the engine started again.

I think his missing chances is just another sign of his body being out of kilter with what he’s used to in his mind.

At the highest level, such fine margins count. If his legs move a millisecond slower than they did before, if his balance is slightly off because he’s lost some flexibility, if his touch is slightly worse. These are all things that impact.

He may adapt yet again and become a pure poacher like Cottee was for us (bagging 10-13 prem goals a season) but I don’t think we’ll see a prolonged purple patch like Vardy of old again.

That’s not to say that he doesn’t contribute or shouldn’t be in the side. He still brings plenty of assists - as he has always done - but that’s the kind of thing that will look great when thrown in with a ‘goal involvement’ stat combined with Iheanacho but doesn’t tell the full story of watching him week in week out for the last few months. Right now he just doesn’t have the goals he’s usually had in recent years to go with it and he’s missing chances he wouldn’t even blink at before.

He’s the LCFC GOAT but it’s not abuse or fickle to say that we think he might not be the player we have come to know anymore.

As my post said it was the pundits in the studio thst said it. His all round game at the minute is as good as it's ever been.

As someone once said, "keep dreaming".

His finishing has been atrocious for months but he has probably over achieved most seasons. He is still important to the team with his work rate and helped Iheanacho hit good form. If his finishing was up to scratch we would probably be 2nd in the table.
