I didn't think we'd miss him massively and said I'd trade him tomorrow if it meant getting Tielemans, as I didn't think he ever improved our defence. He just improved us offensively with his passing from defence, in reality he's done us a massive favour so I'm no longer annoyed by it. We got a better player in Soyuncu and £70m in the bank.

Tony Woodcock took it a bit far , basically went feral and turned German Guess is depends on the individual and how they want to integrate with the local culture, etc. For a footballer, they'd barely deal with any life admin (as an example) so there is litle motivation to use it as a tool to 'get by'. Read somewhere that Woodgate's Spanish was decent and John Collins learnt French in a short space of time. Not exclusive to english speaking players though, Aguero's English isnt brilliant and Tevez's was minimal. Finally, lets be honest, us native English speakers are lazy when it comes to learning other languages.

Conversely, I remember around the same time Ian Rush saying he couldn’t get on at Juventus because there were no card schools or a snooker table.

I remember Zagorakis couldn't speak English and spent his spare time in Oadby chippy talking Greek to the owner. But, tbh, players don't need to.learn the whole.language. Some basic structure of past and present tense and then there's prob only 200 football words and cliché; 'we were unlucky' 'we go again' 'great set of lads'

He plays on the wing / attacking midfielder rather than up front, hasnt been as good as I thought he would be but he's definitely not the worst in the league in my view.

Also that bloke with the headband for Newcastle is absolutely rapid. He should have gone on his own there rather than laying it off.

Yeah, I thought he was a midfielder/winger when they bought him. And in the pre-game graphs he is on the right. But he seems to play as a striker once the game gets going. He is always the furthest up the field, either losing the ball, shooting it out of the stadium or falling over his own feet when someone serves him up with a sitter.

Nobody would give two shits whether someone could or couldn't speak the language as long as they were doing their job well. Ranieri has managed in England on and off for nearly 20 years and I still can't understand a single sentence that comes out of his mouth. Nobody cared when we were winning the league though. The only way Emery will stop being a figure of ridicule is if he can get Arsenal winning again. Simple as that.
