Leicester City defender Sam Hughes has likely played his final game of an “up and down” spell at the club.

The centre-back, signed from non-league Chester in 2017, is out of contract this summer and is not expected to be offered a new deal.

Hughes was superb in his first season at the club as City’s Under-23s narrowly missed out on three pieces of silverware, his form earning him a place on Claude Puel’s bench for the final two games of the 2017-18 campaign.

However, a back injury ruled him out of nearly his whole second season.

This year, he endured a “difficult” loan period at Salford City, starting just four League Two matches before being recalled in January, and then helped City’s Under-23s in their Premier League 2 title charge.

The youngsters’ season is now over, with the Premier League cancelling all youth football. At the curtailment, Steve Beaglehole’s side were three points off top spot with four games to go, having won nine of their previous 11 outings.

Quite surprising.

Thought Brendan might fancy a chance at developing him further.

Very much reminds me of a young Andy King.

Seems to have that knack of arriving in the box at the perfect time as he reads the game so well and is a great composed finisher.

Has a good engine so while I see his future in an attacking midfield role or even a 10 he would be equally at home in CM or a defensive midfield role as he loves a tackle.

Has great potential  for sure and only time will tell of course but he seems to have a good head on him and has a great chance of making it.

Bizarre how he's barely had any minutes for the U23's this season, he's highly rated by the club isn't he?

He’s having work permit problems, the last I heard on this thread, and is worried about it. He grew up here but has a Portugese passport.

This is such a shame and possibly a mistake.

The lad has talent.

He'll make it in the league somewhere and he'll play in the prem during his career.

Hahahaa I'm sure he'll be OK being from Portugal and being here for several years.

That back injury really halted Hughes career hasn’t it! Was flying before the injury and on the bench a couple of times towards the end of the season. I reckon he would of got some minutes were it not for that! A year out and a year lost in development is a lot as a footballer and at 23 don’t think we can risk another years wait for development as he would take up an overage spot in the 23s.

will definitely follow where he moves too and how he gets on.

Assume a mixture of getting experience with the first team and providing competition and training partners for them.

Exclusive: Leicester City promote whizzkid to seniors to fend off Arsenal bid

28th May 2020 at 4:33pm

Leicester City have promoted whizzkid Dennis Gyamfi to first-team training amid Arsenal interest, Football Insider can reveal.

The London giants are among a number of top clubs keeping close tabs on the right-back, 18, ahead of his Foxes deal expiring next month.

A Leicester source has told Football Insider that Brendan Rodgers has been impressed by the development of Gyamfi since training restarted and he has stepped up to join the senior squad for the first time.

The Holland youth international has been targeted by Arsenal as they plot a summer deal.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that the Gunners are very keen on Gyamfi, while there is also an interest from Man United.

Gyamfi will be a free agent from 1 July when his scholarship contract is due to expire.

Leicester would be due a fee for the youngster, however, as compensation for the teenager’s development costs over the last two years.

Gyamfi, who is of Ghanaian descent and has been capped by Holland at Under-19 level, joined the Premier League high flyers on a scholarship agreement in 2018.

He has played predominantly for Leicester Under-18s – 27 times in total – and made his Under-23 debut in Premier League 2 in January.

Gyamfi’s path to the Leicester first team is blocked by Ricardo Pereira, widely regarded as one of the outstanding right-backs in the Premier League.

The Foxes also signed James Justin from Luton Town last summer for a fee of around £8million after beating off rival top-flight interest.

In other Leicester City news, it can be REVEALED that the club have submitted a mega offer to Premier League midfielder.

Also means the U18s coaching role is now open...

We had the answer ready in the lower age group ready to move up to this position but chose to move him on. Idiakez.

I'm surprised they are advertising for the role though, I'd have hoped we'd have a similar structure in place throughout all the age groups more in line with the first team by now, and therefore have an idea who they want to be in charge.
